Ballet Flats Are Great, But If You’re Bored, Try One of These 7 Outfits With Loafers Instead This Autumn
From miniskirts to wide-leg jeans, loafers are autumn's most versatile shoe. Here's how I'm wearing them now.

I think it’s safe to say summer may finally be behind us. In true British fashion, autumn has arrived sooner than expected, bringing more grey skies and sudden showers than sunshine. Normally, I cling to my summer wardrobe for as long as possible, but this year I’ve started the seasonal switch early. Jeans and lightweight knits have crept back into rotation, while dresses and sandals are firmly packed away.
Just this week, I switched over my wardrobe, bringing some of my most-worn staples back into rotation and checking for any gaps in my capsule that needed filling. One thing I noticed I was missing—and it surprised me—was loafers.
That then changed very quickly. After writing a piece on suede loafers and their sudden rise in popularity, I was instantly convinced to invest. A trip to H&M later, I had suede loafers in hand—and soon after, I picked up a classic black leather pair too. Within a week, I’d gone from none to two. Naturally, that sent me searching for fresh outfit inspiration.
Loafers are, unsurprisingly, one of the most versatile shoes you can own. From casual to polished looks, there are endless ways to wear them—and this autumn, I’ve found seven styling ideas that feel both classic and current. Scroll on to see and shop the looks.
