News broke at Sunday's Billboard Music Awards that H&M's next designer collaboration would be with luxury French fashion house Balmain, courtesy of Kendall Jenner and Jourdan Dunn, who wore pieces from the high-low collection on the red carpet.
The house's creative director, Olivier Rousteing, sat down with Style.com to talk about how the collaboration came about, and revealed a very specific reason he thinks Balmain's H&M collection will be different from the ones that have come before: The couture nature of Balmain's products.
"It was a big challenge and a good challenge. I don’t want to lose the craftsmanship, and I don’t want to lose the richness and the glamour of the house," he says. "I kept the glamour and richness, but we twisted it. You can find in the collection so many different garments, and I think that’s going to be the beauty of the collection. My collaboration is different from the others. H&M really challenged themselves with craftsmanship, with the high couture level of France, and the results are great."
