I'm a 22-year-old Fashion Editor Who's Obsessed with the '80s—Here's How I Styled Agolde's Retro-Inspired Denim
I own 13 pairs of jeans—trust me, I counted twice. The Agolde 80's Jean is my most recent addition. When it comes to denim, I'm always on the lookout for a new silhouette. So, when I tried on the tapered denim, I was certain I had nothing like it in my closet. It looked and fit like it just arrived in an '81 DeLorean.
Based on the name, I already had a feeling I would like it. Yes, I'm only 22, but I'm secretly obsessed with '80s fashion—well, maybe it's not a secret anymore. From Madonna in Who's That Girl? to Melanie Griffith in Working Girl to Whitney Houston in the "Greatest Love of All" music video, I have a strong affinity for exaggerated shoulders, acid-wash denim, power suits, layers of lace, ultra-high-waisted jeans, cropped jackets, and so on. Drawing parallels from the parachute pants of the '80s to the balloon trousers of 2026, the tapered-leg pant is back and better than ever.

Fashion people are already calling for unexpected denim trends in 2026. Take peplum jeans as an example—a trend Agolde has also embraced. With that, an '80s revival seems only fitting. I'm not saying you need to pair it with shoulder pads or a Michael Hoban eight-ball jacket, but a fusion of the Walkman period and Spotify era feels appropriate.
Outside of my '80s obsession, our editors are known Agolde fans. The Harper Jean got a shoutout in The Great Try On Spring 2026. So, instead of just reading about how great Agolde's denim is, I decided to try it out for myself. I couldn't think of a pair more perfect than the 80's Jean.
Ahead, find my review of the jeans and how I styled the retro-inspired denim in a way that feels 2026. Don't worry if the tapered leg isn't for you; I've also put together a list of the best Agolde denim for spring.
The Agolde 80's Jean
My review: The tapered leg is what you notice first when wearing the 80's Jean. Curving inwards from the thigh down to the ankle, the jeans create a narrowing silhouette. Slightly baggy, the denim style is aptly named. I'm certain I've seen this silhouette before on '80s icons from Pat Cleveland to Sade (thinking of the double-denim look shot by David Montgomery). I may be biased since I have a thing for obscure '80s movies, but I found the high-waisted, tapered-leg style flattering.
I commute to NYC, and sometimes jeans can feel stiff and constrictive—not the 80's Jean. The 100% cotton construction was breathable and comfortable. It moved with me throughout the day, running from previews to showrooms. The front pleats held through the day, with a few fold lines on the front as the only visible wear, which I kind of love, but that's just me.
I can already feel myself itching to style the jeans again. They were that comfortable.
Size range: 23 to 34
Inseam: 29"
Washes: 5—I'm wearing it in Orbital.
Sizing tip: True to size—I'm wearing a 25.
How I Styled It
Josephine styled the Agolde 80's Jean with the Romily Tee and Repetto flats.
On the days when I'm not in front of my computer, you can find me running to previews, pulling samples, shooting content, or shopping for a try-on. That's why I swear by this simple outfit formula—a white T-shirt and jeans. The Agolde 80's Jean makes the perfect denim base. All you need now is an elevated white tee and a comfortable pair of shoes. Cue the Romily Tee and my second-hand Repettos.
To the untrained eye, this fit may seem basic, but for those on the go, know it's practical, chic, and a real timesaver.
The Romily Tee
When I think of an elevated basic, I think of the Romily Tee. Those who know me know I'm a huge advocate for layering a long-sleeve under a crewneck tee. The Romily Tee does the work for you. Crafted from organic cotton jersey, the tee is lightweight and breathable.
The drape is flattering with a natural crop at the waist. Even with two layers, the shirt had great movement and never felt restrictive. I especially liked the semi-sheer long sleeves and how they bunched around the wrists and elbows for an effortlessly chic finish.
