The New Loewe Language: 4 Details That'll Make You Fluent in 2027
Read our review of Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez's spring/summer 2027 collection for Loewe.
There were no wedding dresses in Loewe's spring/summer 2027 show, but creative directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez nevertheless abided by every bride's favorite adage: something old, something new. Exactly one year after presenting their first collection for Loewe, the designer duo (formerly of Proenza Schouler) was back at Paris Fashion Week with a show that tied historical references to thoroughly modern clothes.
"It’s an old-world, new-world conversation," they explained in the show notes. "Modernist color blocks meet Spanish Baroque gestures. Coastal New England. Sunbaked Andalusia. The ease of American pragmatism, and nods to Spanish drama, ritual, history. What we’re putting forward here is a proposition for dressing. How does this new Loewe language become a wardrobe?" Scroll down for four key spring trends that will help you become fluent.
1. Resin Collars
One thing I love about McCollough and Hernandez is how they can take an ordinary part of a garment and make it extraordinary. Take, for instance, the humble collar. You can notch it, ruffle it, supersize it, and deconstruct it, but have you ever dipped it in resin? The ombré collars at Loewe this season were too good to overlook.
2. Elevated Basketball Jerseys
Basketball jerseys have not typically been considered the pinnacle of fashion, but Loewe just might change that. In the show notes, Loewe's designers explained that their chiffon slip dresses with beaded edges were inspired by the simplicity of basketball jerseys. These versions are too pretty to sweat in, so don't even think about wearing them on the court.
3. Big Buckles and Bigger Bows
When it came to footwear this season, Loewe had one simple message: go big or go home. The buckles were giant, and the bows were even bigger. In other words, these are not shoes for wallflowers. If you like statement shoes, you're going to love Loewe's spring 2027 collection.
4. New England Prep, Reimagined
How do American designers meld New England style with Spanish flair? While there was no shortage of overtly preppy elements—plaid blazers, boat shoes, sporty anoraks—McCollough and Hernandez refrained from styling them all together, all at once. Instead of cliché outfits you might see in Newport, Rhode Island, they mixed and matched preppy pieces with European sensibilities. Plus, they put a fun twist on the preppiest item of all: the polo shirt. "Polos are cut backwards on the body, as if removed and hastily redressed in the heat," the show notes explained.
