NY Winters Are Freezing, But These Easy Jean Outfits Get Me Through
A little background info about me that might make put this story into better context is that, while I now live here, I’m not originally from New York. In fact, ironically, I’m from L.A.—where the warmest thing in one’s closet is a sweater or perhaps a leather jacket. I actually didn’t even own a proper coat until I moved here. But now, here I am with a closet (or two) full of them. Oh, and I’m obsessed with jeans. That’s also noteworthy, as it’s the other half of this article’s premise.
So what now? Naturally, I’ve bridged these two fun facts and rounded up my favorite easy jean outfits that make dressing for freezing NYC winters a lot easier. From a cool way to wear a puffer to the one type of coat you could literally pair with anything and still look good, keep scrolling to see and shop all seven of the looks.
Fun fact: A leather trench coat is actually the solution to all your winter dressing woes.
When I have to wear a puffer—think snow days and such—this is my go-to look. The best part is that it’s also the easiest way to style the staple.
Coated jeans (or leather pants) give your outfit a slightly more polished look while still feeling laid-back. I love how they look with chunky boots and a fuzzy cropped jacket.
When in doubt, find a color scheme and stick to it. I love the way this blue coat looks with blue jeans and a blue bag. Of course, white tees and black boots are always welcome, too.
Sometimes, you can just let your coat do the talking—especially when it’s a chic and flattering belted style that basically covers everything but your boots.
On milder days like we had this past week, I like to layer a sweater (or two) under a black blazer and pairing it with jeans and lace-up boots.
Last but not least, an animal-print coat is my secret weapon on lazy days. Since it steals all the attention anyway, it really doesn’t matter what you pair it with (but jeans and boots always work).
Next, every winter trend and basic you need, all under $100.
Since starting as an intern back in 2013, Nicole Akhtarzad Eshaghpour has held several roles here at Who What Wear, and she is currently Editor-at-Large. It was a less expected route, seeing as she was graduating from business school at USC when this all began, but it has turned out to be the best one for her. Fast-forward to 2024, and she's moved to NYC from her hometown of Beverly Hills and spends her workdays a little differently from when she was an intern starting out. Currently, she focuses on a weekly mélange of shopping content. As far as her personal style goes, she's largely drawn to classic pieces and neutral basics but will always make an exception for something colorful, printed, or bejeweled as long as it's deemed worthy enough. After all, the only thing she loves more than a good party is dressing up for one. On weekdays, she can usually be found at home eating something delicious for dinner and trying to force her husband to watch Summer House.
