If You Try One Bold Spring Trend, It Should Be This

I’ve been a sneaker girl for as long as I can remember. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that open-toed shoes were strictly forbidden at school, meaning you’d rarely find me without sneakers before the age of 15. Even now, I tend to choose lace-up sneakers over other flats. I even push the boundaries a bit by dressing my favorite pairs up for the office (it’s amazing what a sleek blazer can do in the name of professionalism).
Currently I’m loving the resurgence of chunky-soled sneakers. Just take one look at the photos from fashion month and you’ll see everyone rocking them all over the streets of Paris, Milan, London, and New York, dressed up, down, and every way in between. In a show of solidarity, I took the original chunky sneakers (yes, I’m talking about Skechers D’Lites) out for a spin. In short, I won’t be taking these sneakers off all spring.

I can still picture my first pair of Skechers. They were various shades of pink and purple, and—most notably—they were propped up on four wheels. Okay, fine, so they were roller skates, not sneakers, but they were so cool, and I would kill to be reunited with them once again. While my current black-and-white pair is more suited to my adult life, I’m definitely still into that original color scheme.

Red and pink is undoubtedly one of the color combos to try this spring, and I’m a huge fan—the contrast of the two hues really pops. I’m also all about the contrast of a fun candy-colored bag juxtaposed with a sleek, polished blazer and ultra-sporty sneakers.

I dove headfirst into fall’s plaid trend, and I’m equally enthusiastic about spring’s answer to checks (aka gingham). For this between-seasons time of year, I’m wearing them with a lightweight trench and black and white accessories: a leather cap, an of-the-moment structured basket bag, and, of course, my D’Lites.

The busy black-and-white moment happening between the trousers and the sneakers is major, and I’m not even sorry about it. Mixing prints and textures in cohesive color schemes is a really fun way to give your outfit that cool factor without feeling too extra.

I took my D’Lites on a coffee date with one of my favorite spring dress trends, aka slip dresses worn over T-shirts. This outfit is the definition of effortless and can be re-created in so many iterations by simply swapping out the T-shirt underneath. Love how this vintage marigold option plays up the slightly retro vibe of the sneakers.

The uptown feel of the dress and handbag add an elevated contrast to the chunky downtown-cool sneakers. Great style this season seems to be about adding something a little unexpected, and there’s nothing quite like a surprise party south of the ankles.
