If The Bridgerton Ladies Wanted Perfume Recs, These Are the Ones I'd Suggest
It goes without saying that with the premiere of Bridgerton Season 3, our Ton—also known as the beauty and fashion editors of Who What Wear—has once again been set alight with excitement. The long awaited return of the popular series has brought with it endless sources of inspiration to draw from. While we may all be promenading with overly audacious mamas in the park or scrambling to read Lady Whistledown's gossip sheets as this fictional 18th century social scene demands; we're finding new ways to add a delicious hint of scandal, romance, and whimsy to our everyday lives.
Below, we've pulled together fragrance profiles for each of Bridgerton's leading ladies based off of their story arcs, personalities, as featured in Netflix's hit show and original book series. While you can fully expect to see some luxurious cult-classics included below, and keep an eye out for the less-expensive sleeper hits that practically scream "make haste" to your favorite beauty retailer (no appointment at the modiste's required). Keep reading for a look at our top picks for everyone from our favorite secretive wallflower Penelope Featherington to the ever-stylish and demanding Queen Charlotte.
Penelope Featherington
Frangrace Family: fruity floral
Key Notes: green pear, strawberry blackcurrant, pink peppercorn, honeysuckle, peony, rose, lily-of-the-valley, musk, and cedarwood
We're kicking things off with half of the third season's most anticipated couple (or should we say, love match) Penelope Featherington opposite the Bridgerton family's adventurous and charming Colin. Season 3 kicks of with her transformation from a soft-spoken wall flower to a woman of the Ton. Similarly, Burberry's Her presents itself with bright, juicy pear notes before shifting into sensual florals that make the heart skip a beat.
Fragrance Family: fresh citrus
Key Notes: green pear accord, ambroxan, and musks
Here's another pear fragrance we think Penelope would definitely have tucked away on her vanity for special occasions. While it has the same juicy pear. note as the one before, this one is enveloped in a blanket of milky musk and ambroxan.
Francesca Bridgerton
Fragrance Family: fresh floral
Key Notes: neroli, bergamot, grapefruit, amber, vanilla, and vetiver
We didn't see much of Francesca in the first couple of seasons of Bridgerton, but we're absolutely loving the introduction so far! From what we know about Queen Charlotte's newest "Diamond of the Season," she finds comfort at her pianoforte, favors moments of silence in her days, and feels as if she's different from her seven siblings (a secret she shares with Penelope). A scent like Nette's Opening Night is what we would image this musically inclined Bridgerton to wear while making her society debut.
Fragrance Family: classic floral
Key Notes: mandarin essence, magnolia accord, grandiflorum essence, benzoin, and sandalwood
As we get to know Francesca, we see her drawn towards individuals who possess a similar view of themselves and the world around them—namely with John Stirling, Earl of Kilmartin. Reminiscent of the first sparks of love, Gucci Flora Gorgeous Jasmine includes notes of mandarin essence, magnolia, and sandalwood.
Eloise Bridgerton
Fragrance Family: fruity floral
Key Notes: fresh marine, neroli, peony, jasmine, ambroxan, and musk
Our favorite tomboy has undergone somewhat of a transformation since we last saw her; as she had now struck a friendship with the cunning Cressida Cowper following the demise of her one with Penelope Featherington. Eloise is looking for a new start in her second season out... but at what cost? Henry Rose's Jakes House is watery, clean, and lightly floral—perfect for someone starting a new chapter.
Fragrance Family: fresh floral
Key Notes: aldehyde, English lavender, cedarwood, and white musk
We certainly see hints of the headstrong bookworm that we met when the series first premiered; but there's a new softness to Eloise that you might miss at first glance. Jo Malone London's limited-edition clean musk scent is nostalgic, comforting, and what we'd imagine her reaching for in a rush.
Dowager Viscountess Violet Bridgerton
Fragrance Family: classic floral
Key Notes: ambrette seeds, rose centifolia, Bulgarian rose, rose absolute, ambrox, and musk
Violet Bridgerton wants nothing more that for her children to experience a love match as she did with her beloved late husband, Viscount Edmund Bridgerton. She's caring, warm, optimistic, and the first source her sons and daughters go to for advice. Estée Lauder's Aerin Rose de Grasse exudes the same inviting and familiar qualities as our favorite meddlesome mama with its blend of centifolia rose, Bulgarian rose, and rose absolute.
Fragrance Family: woody floral
Key Notes: fig, amber, and gardenia
By Rose Jane's James perfume is reminiscent of the Bridgerton's grand country estate where Violet Bridgerton takes her solace in the company of her large family. While the home's halls certainly bear both happy and incredibly painful memories, the Bridgerton matriarch welcomes bittersweet moments and a reminder of living life to its fullest.
Queen Charlotte
Fragrance Family: warm spices
Key Notes: violet leaf, neroli, petitgrain, freesia, jasmine, vanilla, coco musk, and sandalwood
Bold, calculating, and sometimes a little too honest; Queen Charlotte is a force to be reckoned with in the Bridgerton universe. She rules over her citizens with fairness and an appreciation for the finer things in live; evident in her ov overly decadent style of dress, appetite, and events. Queens & Monsters is as extravagant as the woman we think would wear it since the perfume features stunning notes of violet leaf, freesia, coco musk, and vanilla.
Fragrance Family: warm floral
Key Notes: blackcurrant, fig, violet, tuberose, frangipani, jasmine, sandalwood, cashmeran, vanilla pod, and heliotropine
Her highness never shies away from sharing her opinion and embraces the challenges that Lady Whistledown's gossip sheets present to her (especially when her choice of the "Diamond of the Season" is called into question). This eau de toilette is confident, bold, and leaves a lasting impression and anyone that comes across it; just like the Queen.
Lady Agatha Danbury
Fragrance Family: sweet gourmands
Key Notes: cherry, pink pepper, mandarin, Cherry blossom, orris, saffron, cognac, sandalwood, vanilla, frankincense, guaiacwood, and musk
Lady Agatha Danbury is the Queen's closest confidant and often the puppeteer of some of the biggest social events to happen amongst London's fashionable set. She's straightforward, stylish, and is always thinking one step ahead of everyone else (even, dare we say, the Queen herself). She's the beating heart of the Bridgerton universe. With notes like cherry, pink pepper, and cognac; Cherry Ambition is as opulent and elegant as Lady Danbury.
Fragrance Family: sweet gourmands
Key Notes: red cherry, black oud wood, Turkish rose, Bulgarian rose, and leather
Like her dear friend Queen Charlotte, Lady Danbury never says no to an opportunity to lean into the opulence she's been afforded. Guerlain's Cherry Oud is as luxurious as it gets with a bold and brilliant blend of scarlet red cherry underlined by the subtly leathery accent of oud wood and a whisper of Bulgarian rose.
Viscountess Kathani (Kate) Sharma
Fragrance Family: warm spices
Key Notes: bourbon vanilla, pink peppercorn, cypriol, and calamus
When we first meet her, Kate Sharma is adamantly against the idea of a love match for herself; instead focusing all her efforts on securing one for her sister Edwina Sharma (dubbed the "Diamond of the Season" by Queen Charlotte) with the dashing Viscount Anthony Bridgerton. Her bold and warm nature is echoed in Diptyque's Eau Duelle which combines smooth vanilla with luminous pink peppercorn and smoky cypriol.
Fragrance Family: cool spices
Key Notes: Italian lemon, Moroccan tea, bergamot, wild fig, and kashmir wood
As Kate falls head over heels for Viscount Bridgerton, we see another side of her—one that longs to be understood, seen, and loved. Nest New York's Indigo balances romantic vibrant fruit notes with headier, earthy ones just like the enemies-turned-lovers storyline that had viewers on the edge of their seats.
Daphne Basset
Fragrance Family woody floral
Key Notes: artemisia, white pepper, white tea accord, ambrette, musk, and woody amber
Daphne will non't be gracing our screens in Season 3, but we can't forget the first Bridgerton sibling we were introduced to. Refined and charming; Penelope was dubbed Queen Charlotte's "Diamond of the Season" and found herself swept away in a whirlwind romance with Simone Basset, the Duke of Hastings. Bulgari's Au Thé is as captivating as the picture perfect debutante with delicate notes of artemisia and white tea at its heart.
Fragrance Family: fresh floral
Key Notes: bluebell, lily-of-the-valley, persimmon, eglantine, and white musk
There are a number of times we see the gorgeous Daphne set against a background of luscious flowers (even the Bridgerton home is draped in a blanket of eye-catching wisteria). Jo Malone London's Wild Bluebell Cologne drips with notes of sweet bluebell, lily-of-the-valley and smooth musk that reminds us most of Daphne and Simon's first dance following making their mutually beneficial pact.
Edwina Sharma
Fragrance Family: white floral
Key Notes: rangoon creeper, tuberose, and jasmine bud
Edwina, also won't be making an appearance in Season 3, but we couldn't help but draw a connection between the more introverted Sharma sister and this classic floral fragrance. While she may frequently aim to please her loved ones and high ranking members of the Ton; but don't mistake her friendly nature as being naivety. Gucci's Bloom is youthful and delightfully floral, but there's an added layer of elegance with the tuberose note.
Fragrance Family: classic floral
Key Notes: cattleya orchid, freesia, centifolia rose, sambac jasmine, osmanthus, patchouli, and vanilla
By the end of season 3, we see Edwina define her relationships with her sister, ex-fiancé, and even her highness, Queen Charlotte. She sets new standards for what she'd like in life beyond her identity as the "Diamond of the Season." Victor&Rolf's Flowerbomb is a lavish floral perfume that's opulent and ultra-feminine. Plus, its presented in luxurious diamond grenade-shaped bottle.
