It's Too Hot for Pajamas, so I'm Stocking Up on Short Nightgowns
Hot summer nights are not a problem for everyone. This I know. But they are, in fact, a problem for me. I live in L.A., where some evenings don't cool down enough to bring relief from the 95-degree day. I also don't love running the air conditioning all night long. (Yes, I'm one of those earth lovers.)
Historically, I've been a lover of pajama sets, and I own a more than I care to admit. Lately, though, I haven't been able to sleep through the night in the shortest of pairs, which is why I've turned to short nightgowns. It may seem like they have the same amount of fabric as a cami and shorts, but there's a significant difference: Nightgowns allow my body to breathe.
The best part about nightgowns? They come in so many varieties. From silky slips and lacey chemises to cotton sleep shirts and babydoll dresses, they meet whatever need, mood, and occasion you may have, every night of the week. Even if you run that AC all night long, I promise you'll still love waking up in a pretty sleep dress. Here are 27 of my favorite short nightgowns on the market right now, so you, too, can experience the luxury of a flowy dress made for bed.
Why not bring the puff-sleeve trend to the bedroom?
This jersey slip looks so comfortable and doesn't skimp on the cute detailing. I love those delicate straps.
Another comfortable nightdress with a cute lacey detail.
I love this subtle see-through slip. The side buttons are too cute for words.
I have this dream of only owning silk sheets and silk pajamas—nightgowns included.
This lace bodice is so pretty and the color options for this slip are almost endless!
I repeat: Don't underestimate the power of a comfy nightgown!
I got endless sexy options here, too. And don't sleep on the matching shorts!
I love how the lace bodice extends into the back on this ice-blue chemise.
Sheer white lace is such a classic look for a nightgown. Cosabella also has cute hotpants that match this chemise.
Eberjey makes the loveliest sleepwear, and this lacey cotton chemise is no exception.
Count on Free People to make a body-skimming slip I'd actually want to wear for bedtime.
This all-cotton slip can be worn to bed or underneath a sheer dress. Two-in-one options mean you're getting more mileage out of your money, and I think we can all appreciate that.
TMI: When I put on a flowy tiered dress like this, I dust off the few ballet moves I still have and dance around my apartment. Maybe not the best before-bed wind down, but it makes me happy.
Ooh la la, these bows are cuter than cute!
I know I can sleep through the night in a flowy cotton nightgown like this one.
Leaving you with the prettiest lacey number, and it comes with a matching thong.
Up next, I gave myself a budget for summer shopping, and these 25 on-sale items made the cut.
Aralyn Beaumont joined Who What Wear as the copy editor for branded content after a career in food media. Years of poring over intricate recipes with a fine-tooth comb and working with high-profile chefs has prepared her well for working with fashion's top brands while honoring Who What Wear's voice. Her background as a research editor makes her a finicky editor who will probably care too much about making sure all copy is as factually accurate and aligned with the house style guide as can be. Maybe it's because she's a Gemini, but her personal style is impossible to pin down: One day you'll see her in a turtleneck sweater tucked into a midi skirt with heeled boots, and the next, she'll be wearing mom jeans, a white Hanes tee, and classic Vans. At the end of the day, her style reflects her various moods. Sometimes it will be feminine and elegant, and others it will be grungy or androgynous. Certain things will always remain constant, though. She'll forever be on the hunt for the perfect pair of high-waisted jeans.
