From H&M to Burberry, These Are the Best Raincoats Money Can Buy
I've been caught in an NYC storm without a proper raincoat or an umbrella too many times, and I'll never be making that mistake again. As much as I wish I could stay home every time there's a rainy day, my schedule says otherwise. I've learned my lesson. Whether it's a slight drizzle in the spring or a cold, rainy night in the winter, it's important to have a reliable raincoat in your closet. I've finally completed my search for the right raincoat, and I'm sharing the recommendations with you.
Although it's an essential item, I found that there weren't a ton of stylish options available for a quick search. After doing a deep dive, I rounded up nine of the best to shop in different categories and price points. You'll find the perfect lightweight trench coat to wear to work and the heavy-duty jacket to pack on that outdoor weekend trip. Keep scrolling to find your pick of my favorite raincoats on the market.
Best Affordable Pick
H&M has provided you with an affordable yet stylish option to wear on a rainy day.
Best Sporty Pick
"I love this jacket. I’d give it a 10/10. Fit, length, and weight are great. I wore it in the Swiss Alps and took a dive over a bike going downhill at 20 mph. My pants ripped and I destroyed my knee, but this jacket doesn't even have a snag on it! It saved my elbows and the high-quality jacket lives to see more adventures. Couldn't recommend more!" — Lululemon reviewer
Best Luxury Pick
Burberry is the heritage rainwear brand for the fashion set for a reason. It's classic and will complement any outfit.
Best Trendy Pick
Just because you want to stay warm and dry doesn't mean you have to forgo trends too. Funnel necks were prominent on recent runways, yet it's still not a style that will look dated even when the trend's time is supposedly up.
Best Utility Pick
"I bought this on an impulse and am so happy I did! The color (Navy) is beautiful, the lining is soft, perfect to wear over a light sweater or top. There are a ton of pockets which I love. The side pockets button which I also prefer. And the cinch at the waist is a beautiful detail. I'm a curvy petite and the cinch helps define my figure. It is a tad long but I'm 5'0" so it hits just below my knees which I love. If you're on the fence buy it!" — Nordstrom reviewer
Best Short Pick
"A fabulous hooded trench, finally! I've had a hard time getting my head around spending big money on a trench without a hood from the luxury brands. This trench is a perfect weight, not too heavy, not too light, and lined too. I love the structure and color. I agree with the other reviewers that the belt length doesn't make sense when actually belted through the buckle but it works for me since I like the look of the belt tied at the waist. Grab this trench now!" — J.Crew reviewer
Best for Heavy Rain
In terms of the most waterproof and windproof options, Danish brand Rains makes the most aesthetically pleasing option of the bunch.
Best Leather Pick
If cotton or a waterproof shell isn't your cup of tea, a sleek leather option will keep you warm and on-trend for the rainy days ahead.
Best Anorak
"I was looking for a transitional/autumn piece and this jacket was the perfect addition to my wardrobe! I'm 5'4", 115lbs, and range from XS-S in jackets. I have longer arms and was worried the sleeves wouldn't look how they do on the model but I ended up getting an XS and it fits perfectly oversized with the sleeves hitting right at the base of my fingers! I love the dual-pocket feature and how the hood is big enough to protect me from the rain. I personally didn't have trouble with the zipper when worn (just have to listen for the click to know both zippers are aligned to zip up) but I will say that it hangs in my closet unzipped because I can't get it to click when not worn. That's my only con but it's not at all a deal breaker. Absolutely adore this jacket!" — Everlane reviewer
