19 Investment Pieces Fashion Girls Are Buying This Winter
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again—I’m a huge believer in shopping for investment pieces. I personally prefer to save up for a few big items every year that I can wear again and again, rather than smaller fast-fashion pieces that end up in my resale pile at the end of the season. Typically, I’ll narrow in on one new piece each season to add to my closet, and this winter is no exception. Whether it’s a great bag, timeless boots, or a coat I’ll throw on for years to come, my list is growing with standout pieces that have caught my eye.
To find out some of the best investment pieces to buy this winter, I asked fashion girls to weigh in with their selections. From fashion editors to influencers in NYC, Paris, and beyond, these are the cool new investment pieces the style set is standing behind for winter. Ahead, see the items they recommend and shop their top fashion buys for the season ahead. Then, scroll on to see my picks at the end—including the boots that are currently sitting in my shopping cart.
Chrissy Rutherford, senior digital fashion editor, Harper's Bazaar
"I've been dying for these boots since they hit the runway in February! I know cowboy boots are very of-the-moment, but I've always had a soft spot for them because my dad always wears them. Also, I think the color will transition perfectly back into spring."
"In the past, I always favored trousers over jeans, but these Isabel Marant pants cut in a dark denim are an amazing hybrid that I know I will get a lot of wear out of. They can be easily dressed up with a button-down blouse, or I'll pair with a crop top for a night out."
"A blazer is always a must-have, and I recently realized I only had black ones and wanted a new blazer with a little more texture that feels very fall—this one fits the bill."
Fiona Zanetti, co-founder, Dusk Dawn Studio
"My very close friend Amina just launched her shoe line that is absolutely stunning. I'm dying over each piece, but these Gilda sandals are my favorite—can't wait to wear them."
"I'm a big blazer girl; I'm obsessed with them. I saw this one during fashion week and fell in love. I definitely need it for this winter."
"Being a feather obsessive, I died when I saw this Magda dress. I already know I want to wear it for, like, Christmas holidays or New Year's Eve."
"I don't know if you've heard about this brand, but it's a miracle in a bottle. I just got the rich cream for winter—it literally changed the quality of my skin. I'm so obsessed with it."
María Bernad, founder, Les Fleurs Studio
"A bag for every day—vintage, fashionable, and comfortable."
Oumayma Elboumeshouli, creative director, Haute Tabloid
"Never been so happy with a bag. I've bought the bag exactly one day before Hedi decided to remove the accent and change the logo. For me, this is the perfect tote for every occasion. I bring it with me to meetings, when I travel, or even to the beach."
"You can never go wrong with an oversize cashmere camel coat. It's timeless and finishes every look."
"I love this pair so much because the kitten heel makes every outfit looks so stylish."
Lainy Hedaya, founder, Haute Inhabit
"A blazer always says 'take me seriously'—and a long one like this is great for outside the office as well."
"A bodysuit looks amazing with any type of pant, and a good bodysuit will always be my first pick for a wild night."
Kristen Nichols, associate editor, Who What Wear
"While my closet is already lined with blazers, I can't stop thinking about this one from Balenciaga with its hourglass shape."
"I really need this in my closet to wear with everything from jeans and a tee to miniskirts."
Next: comfortable shoes that are fashion girl–approved.
