Wicker Baskets at the Ready: 16 Garden-Inspired Scents That Have Me Dreaming of Farmers Markets
They're juicy, sweet, familiar, and fresh.

When it comes to the fragrances that are commonly associated with the season of rebirth and new beginnings, it's easy to settle on the easiest imagery that comes to mind: the vibrant explosion of vegetation following a stark winter. Sometimes, identifying a fragrance that envelops its wearer in an unexpected blend of nature-inspired notes is easier said than done. My quick fix while hunting for a fragrance that can instantly transport me to a farmers market, garden, or tree-lined path is to balance each floral note with an equal amount of earthy, green, and fruity touches.
Before you watch another TikTok video for fragrance recommendations or swing by a store to refresh your collection as one season transitions to the next, take a peek at my roundup of perfumes that may permanently alter your expectations for earthy, fresh, and floral scents and exude all the "elevated garden" vibes. Malin+Goetz Strawberry Eau de Parfum
Scent Type: Green fruits
Notes: Sparkling bergamot, mara strawberry, pink pepper, jasmine petals, woodland greens, cedarwood, oakmoss, captive musks, orris root
I've been on the hunt for a non-gourmand strawberry perfume and stumbled upon Malin+Goetz's Strawberry Eau de Parfum in the process. It opens with notes of sparkling bergamot and strawberry before unfurling to reveal spicy pink pepper, a whisper of soft jasmine petals, and aromatic woods. It's the most elevated take on a strawberry perfume I've come across to date and wears beautifully all day.
Customer Review: "Not the strawberry we're imagining or idealizing, but the reality of the humble and fresh strawberry, red, plump, and fresh from bright green vines glittered with fresh blossoms that have yet to fruit. It's juicy and tart and green but still sweet and not cloyingly so. It's a great everyday fragrance and I'll never get sick of it. It's so beautiful it's much different from what I imagined but just as wonderful. I'm shocked and honestly impressed. Malin+Goetz really do put their soul into each scent. They never disappoint."
Nonfiction Gaiac Flower Eau de Parfum
Scent Type: Woody florals
Notes: Wild rose, guaiac wood, vanilla, amber
In the past, I considered guaiac wood to be one of the unique notes I most strongly associated with the cool, crisp weather, but when it's paired with a touch of soft wild rose petals, it becomes my ideal note for year-round wear. This long-wearing scent is my top choice for a summer-to-fall scent, as delicate floral and wood notes are deepened against a base of smooth vanilla and amber. It also has a smoky finish that makes it even more multifaceted.
Customer Review: "I initially purchased this scent and Gentle Night during a trip to Korea, and I went through my 30mL bottle so quickly I had to grab the 100mL. Gaiac flower is such a lovely sophisticated yet warm floral scent that I feel like is so versatile for different seasons and different outfits (works perfectly with my work outfits and casual ones too!) and makes me feel so elegant. Love this scent so much, definitely signature scent worthy for me!"
Heretic Parfum Blood Orange Eau de Parfum
Scent Type: Earthy citrus
Notes: Blood orange, bergamot, red mandarin, bitter orange, lemon, ylang-ylang, cedar, champaca flower, pink lotus, apothecary rose, jasmine sambac, ambrettolide, benzoin, vanilla absolute
You can't visit a farmers market without being greeted by colorful citrus organized flawlessly in wood crates, and one faulty move can send the collection of fruits tumbling to the ground. This Heretic fragrance smells like the moment after they make impact, releasing a sticky, sweet scent. Heretic's Blood Orange complements its titular note with bergamot, lemon, ylang-ylang, cedar, and more for a tantalizing scent that's lively, inviting, and effortlessly cool.
Customer Review: "This perfume strikes a perfect balance between maturity and playfulness. It opens with a delightful jasmine note that captivates immediately, and the dry down reveals a refreshing sweetness of orange zest. The scent is exceptionally clean and blends beautifully with Dirty Hinoki. After transitioning away from toxic chemicals in everyday products, the contrast makes synthetic scents unbearable. I truly appreciate Douglas Little's thoughtful approach to crafting these fragrances."
Chloé Atelier des Fleurs Cedrus Eau de Parfum
Scent Type: Woody florals
Notes: Moss, cardamom, bergamot, pink peppercorn, rose oil, vetiver oil, sandalwood, cedarwood
Yes, cedar is a scent note that's commonly attributed to masculine-leaning fragrances, but Atelier de Fleurs Cedrus is evidence that the note can be softened with the right blend of florals and oils. This elegant fragrance reminds me of the scent of freshly picked flower stems carried in the wind as a florist pieces together eye-catching bouquets farther down the row of farmers market stands. Apart from cedar, moss is the breakout note in this one, and it perfectly complements the bergamot and vetiver.
Customer Review: "Chloé Atelier des Fleurs Cedrus is like wrapping yourself in a cozy, super chic blanket, but make it fashion and outdoorsy. Right off the bat, it hits you with that warm, earthy cedar vibe that’s deep and comforting, yet there’s this light floral kick that sneaks up on you, kind of like finding wildflowers in a dense forest. It’s not your typical in-your-face perfume; it's more like a secret garden vibe that makes you feel special and a bit mysterious. Totally a go-to for days when you want to feel effortlessly cool and a bit mysterious."
Jo Malone London Fig & Lotus Flower Cologne
Scent Type: Warm florals
Notes: Fig leaf, lotus flower, vetiver
While I doubt you'll stumble across an enchanting pond sprinkled with lily pads and lotus flowers on your trip to the farmers market, this ethereal fragrance by Jo Malone recalls visions of a garden in bloom. Opening with aromatic fig leaf, the scent then reveals a heart of soft lotus flower, which is known for its delicate floral scent with green undertones. Serene and airy, it's finished with a grounded and warm vetiver base.
Customer Review: "This is a feminine companion to the more unisex Wood Sage & Sea Salt. It is a slightly sweet and gently floral scent that dries down into a clean citrus fragrance that thankfully doesn’t turn into a boring, soapy smell. If Wood Sage & Sea Salt reminds you of a bracing cold Autumn sunset on a lonely beach then Fig & Lotus Flower will transport you to a bright Spring day by a lovely pond surrounded by a field of just-blossoming flowers."
Maison Margiela Replica From the Garden Eau de Toilette
Scent Type: Citrus woods
Notes: Tomato-leaf accord, green mandarin essence, patchouli heart
Whether you have the experience of picking tomatoes after a rainstorm or just love the smell of them after they've just been misted in the vegetable aisle at the store, tomatoes have a fresh, vibrant scent that couldn't be any more nostalgic. From the Garden is one of my favorite tomato leaf–based fragrances because the note is backed by lively green mandarin essence and cozy patchouli. The perfume is altogether warm, earthy, and fresh.
Customer Review: "From the Garden flawlessly recreates the experience of being immersed in a thriving vegetable garden. From the initial green snap of tomato leaf, it's a scent that tells a story—of warm sunshine, damp soil, and the quiet abundance of nature. This isn't a traditionally romantic or seductive fragrance; instead, it offers a unique sense of [being grounded] and quiet joy, whispering in the ear rather than screaming. It is my absolutely favorite late spring/summer fragrance."
Molton Brown Bluebell & Wild Strawberry Eau de Parfum
Scent Type: Fruity florals
Notes: Violet leaf, bluebell, wild strawberry, amber accord
I was introduced to this perfume during my last few weeks of living in New York City and wore it anytime I longed for afternoons spent in a garden or exploring the aisles of the fruit-filled summer markets in my native Pacific Northwest. This perfume combines juicy wild strawberry (less sugary and more fresh) with a warm amber accord that transports its wearer to a sun-speckled forest floor. Violet leaf and bluebell add a soft floral touch to the scent, rounding it out and making it one of my most used fruity, floral perfumes.
Customer Review: "I quite like this fragrance, it is floral, sweet, and green. When I first spray it I get the sweet berries scent with a hint of the green notes. Then the fragrance settles into a more grounded and somewhat woody and floral scent, but I still smell the sweetness. It's perfect for the springtime because it smells just like nature."
Diptyque Olene Eau de Toilette
Scent Type: Classic florals
Notes: Wisteria, honeysuckle, jasmine, narcissus
After adding the best fruits and vegetables to the basket reserved for all my market visits, I make sure enough space is left for a medium bouquet of seasonal blooms. Diptyque's Olene Eau de Toilette smells eerily similar to my dream wildflower bouquet of wisteria, honeysuckle, jasmine, and narcissus. This enchanting floral perfume is housed in a stunning bottle featuring an illustration of Flora, the Roman goddess of springtime, flowers, and fertility.
Customer Review: "I wear this to cheer myself up... it's the happiest floral scent I know. It's not sickly sweet, but is light, floral and uplifting. It's [perfect] for when I want to be reminded of sunny days past, in Venice or in England, and of sunny days to come when the sun is out, the breeze is warm and anything seems possible."
Chloé Rose Naturelle Eau de Parfum Intense
Scent Type: Woody florals
Notes: Bergamot essence, neroli essence, organic rose essence, oakwood essence, cedar essence, sandalwood essence
It's no secret that I'm a fan of rose scents (specifically when they're blended with woody touches for added warmth), and Rose Naturelle Eau de Parfum Intense by Chloé has become a recent favorite of mine. I was obsessed with the original version of this perfume and was heartbroken to learn that it had been discontinued before being reintroduced in an even more floral-heavy iteration. It wears as beautifully alone as the earlier version but also pairs nicely with my musky, leather scents.
Customer Review: "As soon as I opened the lid, I was immediately able to smell the fragrance. I would describe it as a light, sweet and woody scent. The scent is by no means overpowering or too intense; the scent is definitely noticeable, but not to the point it overtakes every other one in the room. In terms of longevity, it lasts me the whole day, which I love because I find most fragrances only last a few hours. I would definitely recommend this!"
Byredo Inflorescence Eau de Parfum
Scent Type: Fresh florals
Notes: Pink freesia, rose petals, lily of the valley, magnolia, fresh jasmine
This Byredo scent doesn't receive nearly enough love, and I'm on a mission to make sure everyone knows about it. It's the ultimate "I count down the months to farmers market season" scent with a blend of pink freesia, powdery rose petals, and delicate lily of the valley. I like to describe this as a modern take on a freesia fragrance with a green layer that reveals itself seconds after the initial spray. It's long-lasting, has an impressive sillage, and is sure to earn compliment after compliment.
Customer Review: "To my nose, the initial spray immediately reminds me of freshly cut flowers. The smell of the green stalks is very prominent. This perfume can uplift moods and feelings. It's a very pleasant scent. Not too heavy and not too airy. Inflorescence and La Tulipe are two of my favorites from Byredo. Such a fresh and clean scent."
Le Labo Baie 19 Eau de Parfum
Scent Type: Fresh woods
Notes: Dry juniper berry, patchouli, green leaves
Lovers of the smooth, sensual notes of Le Labo's best-selling Santal 26 Eau de Parfum should consider picking up this fresh and effortlessly chic berry scent. It opens with a fresh and crisp juniper berry note that dries down to sweet and spicy patchouli enveloped in green leaves. It reminds me of the woods the morning after a storm when the ground is still damp and surrounding leaves are sprinkled with dewdrops.
Customer Review: "I love this perfume. Because they have so many incredible ones, I think this one is a bit overlooked in the Le Labo family. I love patchouli but it is often used in gourmands, and I no longer enjoy overly sweet perfumes. This one is all earthy and rain, like walking through a thick forest after a storm. I'm definitely sending my empty bottle back to Le Labo for a refill after I finish, even at the steep price. It’s that good."
Penhaligon's Highgrove Bouquet Eau de Parfum
Scent Type: Floral woods
Notes: Silver lime blossom, mimosa, cedar
I'm a strong believer in the idea that everyone should have at least one timeless floral perfume on their vanity, especially if it's effortlessly chic and timeless like Penhaligon's Highgrove Bouquet Eau de Parfum. Content creator Mishti Rahman introduced me to it earlier this year, as it was one of the perfumes she wore for her wedding festivities. This scent stands out to me because it opens with silver lime blossom, which has a honey-like citrus scent I can't get enough of.
Customer Review: "This elegant scent was produced with the approval of the current King Charles III of England and named after his Gloucestershire estate. With notes of lime blossom, mimosa and cedar, it's an English garden in a bottle. Very classy! I've tried a sample and soon I will go for a full bottle."
Trudon Absolu Eau de Parfum
Scent Type: Citrus florals
Notes: Cardamom, mandarin, saffron, incense, iris, orange blossom absolute, guaiac wood, cedarwood, tonka bean
If you've been wondering which garden-inspired fragrance has been my most worn lately, it's Trudon's Absolu Eau de Parfum. I've been collecting and burning the brand's home fragrances and candles for years, but this was my first perfume from Trudon. Its opening notes of cool and warm spices immediately transports me to the market's spice stands that I could spend hours going through, but then it reveals a burst of unexpected orange blossom that adds a citrusy, floral twist. Everything is set against the base notes of guaiac wood, cedarwood, and tonka bean, taking this one to the next level.
Customer Review: "Absolu surprised me. I usually avoid orange blossom, but this one is dry, green, and contemplative. No syrup, no shine—just a sun-warmed bloom, surrounded by hay and guaiac wood. It feels like standing in a quiet field, the air thick with the aroma of herbs and the memory of the land. A grounding, elemental floral that sits close to the soul. Stunning."
Maison d'Etto Karat EG Eau de Parfum
Scent Type: Fresh earth
Notes: Turkish rose, carrot heart, patchouli heart, amber
Another earth-inspired fragrance I've been wearing frequently is this modern, chypre eau de parfum by Maison d'Etto. A spritz of Karat EG reveals powdery, fresh Turkish rose combined with hearts of carrot and patchouli. It ends with a base of warm amber, which gives this perfume the same magical feeling you get from slipping on your favorite well-worn cashmere sweater once the temperature takes a dip at the end of summer.
Customer Review: "Familiar but feeling somewhat unique, this is an extremely classy rose centered aromatic musky floral. The central note is a beautiful Turkish rose that is initially surrounded by some earthy notes and slight vegetal notes and progresses in to a firm patchouli amber musky base. The meticulously constructed unisex scent has moderate sillage and good longevity. Mysterious and charming. Enjoy!"
Diptyque Lilyphéa Eau de Parfum
Scent Type: Fresh green
Notes: Cardamom, violet leaves, vanilla
The name of this perfume combines "water lily" and "Nymphéas" (the French title for Claude Monet's Water Lilies series), and the bottle contains a fragrance that blends soft and subtly aquatic water lily with fresh notes of cardamom, violet leaves, and sweet vanilla. While it layers well with a number of other floral and green fragrances on this list, I think it smells the prettiest on my skin alone. It also looks like a piece of art in my fragrance collection with a glass bottle featuring gentle shapes forming water lilies.
Customer Review: "Lilyphéa by Diptyque is the kind of fragrance that doesn't shout—it glows. From the very first spritz, it feels like sunlight filtering through leaves, like stepping barefoot into a hidden spring at dawn. It's clean, yes...but not sterile. It's living, like petals kissed by mist and a breeze that knows your name. This is what I imagine a spring water fairy would wear. Delicate lily-of-the-valley and soft green notes mingle with something airy and translucent, like water catching light."
Bond No. 9 Greenpoint Eau de Parfum
Scent Type: Floral marine
Notes: Pear, cardamom, bergamot zest, pimento leaves, rose ess, magnolia, star jasmine, marine, blonde cedar, tree moss, sea amber, vetiver roots, musk, vegan ambrettoilide
During my year in New York City, I stumbled upon a number of charming gardens tucked between buildings that offered a respite from the concrete jungle I called home. Bond No.9's Greenpoint Eau de Parfum is reminiscent of ducking into one of these safe havens during a hot summer day with notes of crisp and subtly sweet pear, fresh cardamom, and a hint of mineral edge with a marine accord.
Customer Review: "Not sure what took me so long to smell this, but i'm hooked! Even though it's a unisex scent, it is very soft and very different from any other Bond [No. 9] scent. I absolutely love it!"
