At this time of year, I’m personally very committed to finding as many new elevated comfy looks as possible. You know, the outfits that feel positively delightful to wear while you’re traveling and exercising and schlepping about the city without actually venturing into the forbidden realm of Things One Shouldn’t Wear in Public. The outfits that you never feel the urge to take off the second you get home, that you actually resent having to change out of when an occasion calls for something more formal, that leave you wondering why anyone would ever be so rude as to make something as cruel as an unlined jacket.

If this happens to be as much of a thing for you as it is for me, then, first, I’m so happy we found each other! Second, you really should be following Tania Sarin on Instagram (along with 280,000 or so other people). The West Coast–based fashion influencer has really nailed the art of the elevated comfy outfit, with her feed proving she can look every bit as chic wearing her effortless L.A. athleisure as she can in a structured leather trench on the streets of NYC. She gets us.

I hit Sarin up for her three most essential sneaker-friendly, real-life outfits to get me through this winter weather. Eye them up below (and then tell me you don’t wish you were wearing these Joylab looks over your current attire).

ESSENTIAL OUTFIT #1: AIRPORT ATTIRE

Like me, Sarin is always freezing on planes, so this is a perfectly cozy vibe for her travel attire. If the first lesson here is that a blazer makes literally any outfit look chic, the second is certainly that navy and black should be an element of many more outfit formulas.

Sarin tells me that sweats, a hoodie, and a blazer is her go-to look whenever she’s airport bound, so this is no doubt what she’ll be wearing when she heads to Aspen with her girlfriends later this month. Sarin’s advice is to look for matching athletic-inspired separates in a luxe fleece for ultimate coziness (she loves the feel of the fabric of JoyLab’s jogger set) and opt for styles that feel just a little oversize, which is how she usually likes to wear her clothing, blazers included.

ESSENTIAL OUTFIT #2: ERRANDS, ELEVATED

FYI, if you happen to be in L.A. and looking for Sarin on a Sunday, she’s most likely at Erehwhon getting a smoothie and she’s almost definitely wearing this outfit. "I love how soft and comfortable these leggings are,” she shares, acknowledging the only two things I actually care about when I’m purchasing for leggings that will under no circumstances ever be worn to work out in. She tells me these are definitely workout-friendly, noting that this is maybe best described as her weekly workout-to–farmers market look.

As a truly massive fan of retro-inspired half-zip sweaters, you can only imagine my joy upon discovering this ultra-cozy sherpa pullover. Sarin tells me she loves the boxy fit, noting that it’s as good thrown on with leggings as it is a little more dressed up with jeans. Personally, I see it worn to the office over a sheer cream turtleneck, half-tucked into high waisted wide-leg cream trousers, but maybe that’s just me?

ESSENTIAL OUTFIT #3: WORKOUT-WORTHY

Two surefire ways to get Sarin amped for the gym: playing "Gum Body" by Burna Boy, and this flawless workout outfit. A trusty sports bra–and-leggings combo is what she wears to feel her most comfortable and confident when she’s exercising, whether that’s hiking or her LIT Method classes (or maybe finally trying reformer Pilates this winter… stay tuned).

Like so many of us, Sarin admits she gravitates toward simple styles and darker colors when it comes to activewear. She loves a skinny-strapped sports bra (with a racerback, so her straps aren’t slipping) and is particularly into this one for the subtle gold design detail; it’s part of a matching set, but Sarin’s more inclined to mix and match with a complementary legging to keep things chill.

At the end of the day, whether Sarin’s working out or hanging out, "Fit is number one,” she says. Whether that means hunting down a more high-waisted legging or throwing on a slightly boxy pullover for a silhouette that feels more modern, these are style cues you can take to the bank, the farmers market, or wherever your errands may take you.

She loves collaborating and storytelling, so it's a really fun role for her. It's also the first full-time job she's ever had! She started out in her career as a very mediocre model who agreed to her first styling job to impress a photographer she had a crush on, which led her down a happy path of contributing to Vogue Australia and working as a stylist, fashion writer, and creative director for all sorts of brands and titles. She has a bachelor of communications, but most of her career opportunities came up thanks to some fleeting and accidental street style moments. She's been at Who What Wear for three and a half years and still loves to work as a freelance consultant with brands and designers to shoot their campaigns in NYC. She's originally from New Zealand, and Bondi Beach is her second home, but like just about every other 20-something, she fell in love with New York at some point. She lives in Williamsburg with her fiancé and their weird little dog, Ruby. If you ever need reccies for feel-good fashion, legit coffee spots, politics podcasts, or non-intimidating yoga studios, she's very much your girl.
