We've all been there. You spend your morning creating the most perfect slicked-back bun or ponytail, only to have those pesky flyaways totally ruin the look. Which is why I've made it my mission to try almost every single flyaway product on the market.
From taming creams to gels, waxes and even those handy flyaway sticks, I've spent the past few weeks trialling some of the most popular options from leading brands such as Color Wow, JVN, Briogeo and more. Below, I've curated a tight edit of the best flyaway products that actually deliver a sleek finish, without leaving you with that dreaded greasy feeling. - Best Flyaway Wand: Noughty Frizz Magic Flyaway Taming Wand, £12

1. JVN Hair Perfect StyleFix Stick
Type of product: Stick
How to use: Apply directly to the hair or rub a small amount between your fingertips before applying
Pros
- Easy to use
- Good for on the go
- Doesn't feel greasy
Cons
- Stick can get a little messy with stray hairs
First up is this handy flyaway stick. I love these kinds of products as they are so quick and easy to use, and you can even throw them in your handbag to tame hair on the go. I like to apply it directly to the hair when I'm doing a slicked-back style, then go over with a hair brush or comb to get my desired finish. Yes, it does leave a bit of residue in the hair, but what I like about this is that it doesn't make it look greasy. Instead, it has a creamy formula packed with vegan waxes and plant butters.
2. Larry King Haircare Flyaway With Me Kit
Type of product: Cream
How to use: Apply with fingertips, then go over with the comb
Pros
- Not as heavy as a wax product
- Multi-use formula
Cons
- Doesn't have as much hold as other products in this roundup
If you prefer a cream formula, then let me introduce you to this handy kit from Larry King. I personally reach for this when I want something a bit more lightweight, and I love the fact that I can use it on my roots to tame baby hairs, but also apply it through the ends of my hair for a smoothing effect. I will admit I don't use the comb loads (I prefer to just smooth it in with my fingertips), but it's certainly handy to have. Also, the tube might look a little small, but trust me when I say that a little bit goes a long way.
3. Color Wow One Minute Transformation Styling Cream
Type of product: Cream
How to use: Apply to dry hair and brush through
Pros
- Adds a smooth, glossy finish to the hair
Cons
- Not as easy to use on the go
This product is slightly different from your typical hair wax or styling stick, but it's just as impressive. Although it's a cream, it has a slight waxy formula that perfectly refines the hair, smooths flyaways and adds a gorgeous, glossy finish. I personally like to use this on the ends of my hair and take a little bit between my fingertips before applying. I then brush it through to get that really glossy effect. It's ideal for in between hair wash days when your ends are looking a little dry and frazzled.
4. Noughty Frizz Magic Flyaway Taming Wand
Type of product: Wand
How to use: Apply straight to the hair
Pros
- Great for using on the go
- Can also use it on your eyebrows
Cons
- Better for smaller baby hairs or flyaways
For on-the-go touch-ups, I love this wand from Noughty. It looks just like a mascara or brow gel, but can be used on both your hair and eyebrows to smooth flyaways. It's definitely better for smaller sections of hair (I prefer to use a cream or wax when doing a full slicked-back style), but it's ideal for those pesky little hairs that won't stay in place. The formula is packed with hydrating coconut oil, marula oil and pro-vitamin B5, and whilst it does add subtle shine to the hair, it never looks greasy.
5. Briogeo Style + Treat Yuzu + Plum Oil Sleek Stick
Type of product: Stick
How to use: Apply straight to the hair (you can also follow up with a comb)
Pros
- Great for on the go
- Has strong hold
Cons
- Can leave a little bit of residue
Similar to the wand above, this is one of my all-time favourite flyaway products for on the go. It's smaller than the JVN Hair Perfect StyleFix Stick, so it's a good handbag essential, and the circular shape makes it easy to get those hairs around your ears, too. It delivers some serious hold and has a gorgeous, subtle scent that feels citrusy and fresh. Plus, it's packed with conditioning ingredients for a glossy finish.
6. Hershesons Almost Everything Cream
Type of product: Cream
How to use: Apply a small amount to damp or dry hair
I always have a pot of this stuff to hand, as not only is it great for taming flyaways, but you can also use it as a shine booster, a curl definer, a hair mask and more. When using it for slicked-back styles, I take a small amount between my fingers and apply it to both the roots and ends. It doesn't have as much hold as a gel or wax, but the great thing is that it feels a lot more lightweight in the hair.
Pros
- Multi-use product
- Lightweight
- Compact packaging
Cons
- Not as long-lasting as a wax or gel
