Finally! I've Worked Out How to Smell Exactly Like Victoria Beckham for Just £30
If you've ever wanted to smell like Victoria Beckham herself without spending a fortune, then you're in luck.
As a fragrance-obsessed beauty editor, there is nothing that brings me more joy than a new perfume. And some of our favourite scents on the Who What Wear UK beauty team are Victoria Beckham Beauty perfumes. Honestly? They're total compliment magnets.
However, building your fragrance collection can be an expensive hobby (especially if you're shopping for luxury fragrances), which is why I wanted to share my hack for trying an expensive perfume for less. Enter perfume discovery sets. And thankfully for us, Victoria Beckham Beauty has two fragrance discovery sets that allow you to try the scents before committing to a £170 full-sized bottle. Plus, you can even redeem the cost of the sample set against your favourite, so it's a win-win.
The Signature Collection Fragrance Discovery Set
The first of the two sets is £40, and includes four 2ml vials of all of VBB's fragrances, including 21:50 Rêverie: Vanilla, Portofino `97, Suite 302 and
San Ysidro Drive. Along with the set, you'll receive a £40 voucher to redeem on a full-sized bottle, so it's a great way to test and wear each scent to find your favourite without the risk of buyer's remorse. I've been testing this set out myself, and you can easily get three or four wears out of each one.
The Original Collection Fragrance Discovery Set
The Original Collection Fragrance Discovery Set includes the three original scents from the collection (Portofino `97, Suite 302 and
San Ysidro Drive) in 2ml vials, and includes a £30 voucher towards your full-sized bottle.
Curious to know what each of the VBB scents smell like? Scroll on for my review of each fragrance from the discovery sets.
1. Portofino '97
Key notes: Calabrian bergamot, black pepper, incense, amber, patchouli, vetiver
Editor review: I'm not surprised that this is the best-seller, and this was easily my absolute favourite from the discovery set. This citrus perfume opens with a summer breeze that makes you feel like you're in a 5-star hotel on the Amalfi coastline, staring out to a sparkling azure blue sea from your opulent balcony. It's inspired by Victoria and David Beckam's romantic escape to Portofino in the '90s, which has a refreshing zing of bergamot, black pepper and a musky, skin-like quality that feels like you're slipping into crisp, high-thread-count sheets. Bliss.
2. 21:50 Rêverie Eau de Parfum
Key notes: Tobacco leaves, plum, vanilla, Tonka bean, cedarwood
Editor review: This hypnotic vanilla perfume is a close second favourite and got me a lot of compliments. It's smooth, creamy, resinous and heady as a tropical island at night. This one draws inspiration from the Beckhams' visit to Java, where they had a candlelit dinner backdropped by the lush rainforest and mountain landscapes at night. If you want a sensual perfume that lingers long on the skin, then you'll adore this sophisticated vanilla fragrance.
3. Suite 302
Key notes: Black cherry, red peppercorn, rose centifolia, violet, musk, papyrus, black leather, tobacco leaf
Editor review: A spritz of Suite 302 sweeps you away to an exclusive Parisian hotel suite that's filled with luxurious bouquets of flowers, crisp white sheets and a silver platter of chocolate-coated cherries. It's both sophisticated and seductive, with juicy black cherry and a swirl of smoky tobacco and musk that makes you want to bury your nose in your wrists again and again.
4. San Ysidro Drive
Key notes: Passion fruit, pink peony, ocean air, rose absolute, saffron flower, agarwood, black amber, vanilla
Editor review: Lastly, we have San Ysidro Drive, a woody floral scent that envelops you in a sunny cloud of mouthwatering passionfruit, salty ocean air and velvety peony petals. The woody note of agarwood gives it a calming, grounding quality that stays with you throughout the day.
