My Colleagues' Heads Turn Every Time I Spray One of These Moreish Perfumes
One beauty editor shares her edit of the best chocolate perfumes on the market.
If there's one thing my friends always joke about, it's the fact that I like to smell like my favourite dessert. I'm a total chocolate lover (seriously, I will order anything chocolatey on the menu), and I want my perfume to match. Whilst I'm a big fan of gourmand scents in general (vanilla perfumes used to be a personal favourite of mine), there's something about a chocolate perfume that is superior in my opinion.
Perhaps it's the fact that this note can actually come across as incredibly sophisticated. That's right, some of the most elegant perfumes out there contain hints of chocolate. Of course, it can add a sweet element to your scent, but this note can also smell smooth and seductive, making chocolate perfumes an excellent choice for an evening with your other half.
Below, I've rounded up what I believe to be the best chocolate perfumes on the market. I've spritzed all of them myself and can confirm that they are just as addictive as that family-sized bar of Dairy Milk staring at you from across the coffee table. In fact, they have become my most worn fragrances of the season, and they have seriously caught my colleagues' attention. Every time I spritz my perfume in the office, I have to prep for the abundance of questions about to come my way. Trust me, these scents are addictive.
From affordable perfumes to luxury favourites from the likes of Tom Ford and Guerlain, I've included something for everyone. I guess you could think of me as the fragrance equivalent of Willy Wonka...
The Best Chocolate Perfumes 2025
- Best Affordable Chocolate Perfume: Zara Cocoa & Latte, £20
- Best Luxury Chocolate Perfume: Guerlain L’Art & La Matière Fève Gourmande, £295
- Best Sweet Chocolate Perfume: Lancôme La Vie est Belle L'Elixir, £142
- Best Sophisticated Chocolate Perfume: Tom Ford Black Orchid Reserve, £135
1. Zara Cocoa & Latte
Key notes: Chantilly cream, white chocolate, suede
First up is a super sophisticated iteration of a chocolate perfume from Zara's Cocoa Collection. Notes of suede really dominate this scent, giving it a warm, smooth, creamy aroma with hints of leather throughout. There's an undertone of white chocolate that unfurls onto the skin throughout the day, making it all the more appealing. Honestly, this smells so much more expensive than its £20 price tag.
2. Floral Street Ylang Ylang Espresso
Key notes: Tangerine, Sichuan pepper, rose, jasmine, tiramisu accord, patchouli, ylang ylang, espresso beans, cocoa beans, guaiacwood
Okay, this might be one of my favourite chocolate perfumes of all time. I've written all about my love for Floral Street, and in my opinion, this is a stand-out scent from the brand. It's a lot sweeter than the fragrance above, with notes of cocoa beans and tiramisu accord adding an irresistible element. However, hints of coffee add a dark, toasted aroma that makes it ideal for evening wear.
3. Tom Ford Black Orchid Reserve
Key notes: Black truffle, ylang ylang, bergamot, orange, plum, patchouli, vanilla, dark chocolate
If you haven't tried Tom Ford's iconic Black Orchid perfume yet, I highly recommend giving it a spritz this winter. My personal favourite is Black Orchid Reserve, a deep, dark, sexy scent with notes of vanilla, plum and dark chocolate. While it sounds like it would sit on the sweeter side of things, it's actually vibrant, warm and sultry and never fails to earn me compliments.
4. Lancôme La Vie est Belle L'Elixir
Key notes: Violet, raspberry, cocoa butter
I'm a huge fan of Lancôme's original La Vie Est Belle perfume, but this iteration takes the scent to whole new heights. It still features a fruity, floral heart thanks to notes of violet and raspberry; however, the addition of cocoa butter creates a sweet, smooth, comforting aroma that feels like wrapping yourself in the softest of blankets. Honestly? I would bathe in this stuff if I could.
5. Guerlain L’Art & La Matière Fève Gourmande
Key notes: Cloves, black pepper, honey, smoked tea, rose, patchouli, chocolate, rum
While I don't own this Guerlain perfume, I did spritz it in store, and I've genuinely not stopped thinking about it since. Yes, it's expensive, but it smells so elegant, with a bright black pepper opening and a heady base of chocolate and rum. If you want people to say you smell intoxicating, this is the chocolate perfume for you.
6. Zara Cocoa Sunset
Key notes: Whipped cream, milk chocolate, vanilla, peach, passionfruit
Another absolute winner from Zara. This is a fruity take on a chocolate perfume, with notes of peach and passionfruit taking centre stage. Whipped cream settles on the skin for a delicate, milky base, whilst hints of milk chocolate and vanilla add a touch of sugary sweetness.
7. Aerin Rose Cocoa
Key notes: Chocolate, rose, oud
When I was doing research for this article, I came across this chic-looking scent from Aerin (hello, chocolate-coloured bow), and it's going straight on my perfume wish list. A heady concoction of chocolate, rose and oud, it sounds absolutely alluring.
