Buyers Reveal the Hero Pieces They Love for Next Season

Fashion buyers have a big job during Fashion Week—they're tasked with determining the pieces that we'll see in stores over the next few months. They've got the power. Often, we will see a collection at Fashion Week but not every piece ends up in the department stores—it's the buyer's job to determine what their shoppers really want.

Post-Fashion Week Australia, we asked four major buyers to each tell us their three hero pieces from the collections that really stood out.

Keep scrolling to discover (and even pre-order) some of the stand-out looks from Fashion Week Australia.

Anna Quan

"I love how Anna Quan layered the two different shirts together in this look and paired them back to a Bermuda short. Anna loves to see how different women wear her pieces as they each have their own interpretation of the collection and style it in their own way.  I imagine when she designed this collection she kept those unique women in mind. Anna’s collections always evoke a sense of elevated ease, hence why this look is a particular favourite."

"I love the mix of sporty and feminine in this look, adapting a traditional track pant silhouette into an evening piece with a beautiful front drape."

"The simplicity in Marina Afonina's [designer behind Albus Lumen] designs are what I am most drawn to. Using lightweight fabrications like linen in this look, she touches on a woman who wants to feel comfortable, sophisticated, and forward all at the same time."

"This feather coat is heaven. It is super chic and the lurex thread delicately woven through adds a touch of playfulness, which is very true to the Alice McCall aesthetic."

"This dress at Macgraw was super cute and fun. I love how the ruffle sleeves compliment the ruffle skirt, and the high neck adds a degree of seriousness without losing any of the fun."

"I love this sleeve and colour at KitX. The one shoulder silhouette will be really prominent next season—it feels really sophisticated—and this shade of yellow is on point."

"The bigger the better. A statement earring is right on trend and the Dinosaur Design earrings I spotted at Bianca Spender were bold and exciting."

Christopher Esber

"One of the four designers I work with on exclusive capsule collections for Parlour X is Christopher Esber—a talented and smart designer. This season he explored the fundamentals of menswear and dissected light, tailored shapes with interesting hardware and soft feminine touches. I loved the hyper-feminine, sexy dresses with ‘watch band’ detailing and strapping. Sophisticated."

Meredith Bullen

"I really love watching emerging talent and I’m honoured to part of the panel for St George Next Gen. For me, the stand-out star was Meredith Bullen. The Japanese/Belgium aesthetic was captivating. Best looks were unique, non-traditional oversized knits and an interesting use of denim. One to watch."

Romance Was Born

"I am blown away by the talent that is Romance Was Born. This show and that runway was spectacular. Luke Sales and Anna Plunkett closed the week with opulence and creative genius. It is impossible to select a favourite look; the overall impact was genius. Favourite looks begun with mini dresses and gowns, to a dramatically beaded robe all handcrafted and treated with embellishment, romance and whimsy. Incredible."
