I'm Trying to Look Upscale—These 4 Reasonably Priced Items Are My Secret Weapon
As a born-and-raised Southern Californian, my style tends to be quite casual, no matter the occasion. Usually, that means jeans and tees year-round, but lately, I've been wanting to get out of my WFH funk and dress up a bit more. To be clear, "upscale" certainly doesn't have to mean designer. I may be biased, but Who What Wear Collection's newest spring launch is full of beautiful, well-made pieces that don't cost a fortune yet look so polished.
One of the things Who What Wear Collection does best is matching sets. Whether you're looking for a fun yellow pant set or a sophisticated midi A-line skirt with a coordinating crop top, there's definitely something for everyone. Scroll down to shop my four favorite pieces for dressing in an upscale way for less than $180.
1. Matching Sets
I always seem to want to buy whatever Alyssa Coscarelli is wearing.
These plissé pants are selling like hotcakes.
Have you ever seen such a great summer outfit?
None other than Kendall Jenner and Dua Lipa have been wearing matching pant sets in lemony colors.
These are so much more fun than basic blue jeans.
I can never resist a good crop top, and this one is truly excellent.
I'll take a flowy skirt over a body-con one any day of the week.
This plissé fabric really takes the humble button-down shirt to the next level.
These extremely comfortable "puddle pants" are so on-trend right now.
2. Midi Dresses
This top-selling dress is back in a new colorway, and I'm simply obsessed.
As Karl Lagerfeld said, you can never be overdressed or underdressed in a little black dress.
You truly have to feel this sumptuous fabric IRL to appreciate its beauty.
Is this fashion's version of camouflage? If so, I'm all for it.
It's not summer without the perfect white sundress.
This gathered detail at the bust is definitely worth a close-up look.
3. Collared Shirts and Dresses
I'll be wearing this unbuttoned as a swimsuit cover-up.
You can never have too many minidresses for summer.
This extra-soft knit fabric is so comfy you'll be tempted to sleep in this dress.
4. Wallpaper Prints
I'll be wearing this cute crop top with white denim cutoffs.

Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 12 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of senior news editor (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
