Fans of the beautiful pieces within the Brock Collection will want to pay attention because fashion designer Laura Vassar has teamed up with Reformation to release a new collaboration named, The Collection. This summer capsule brings Brock Collection's distinct point of view to Reformation, infusing the Vassar's sharp eye, signature floral prints, and romantic silhouettes with a focus on sustainable luxury. "My overarching goal was to create sexy, beautiful clothing that is sustainable and luxurious, yet still accessible," Vassar tells Who What Wear. "This highly curated collection features timeless staples that customers will cherish and wear in their day-to-day lives for years to come. Each piece exudes versatility and simplicity while making the wearer feel elevated and confident."
For Reformation, Vassar was the perfect partner to design a curated capsule collection for their expanding base of luxury-minded shoppers. "We knew we needed an exceptional designer to bring a line like this to life, and we found a kindred spirit in Laura," says Reformation CEO Hali Borenstein. "She has built an incredible following through the Brock Collection, truly understands the preferences of this [specific] customer, and shares our deep love for vintage." This elegant and elevated capsule is poised to become a staple in the wardrobes of the best-dressed fashion insiders this season. Where did you look for inspiration?
Vassar: I was so inspired by the idea of bringing a new sensibility to Reformation for a luxury-minded customer while staying true to the brand's heritage. These styles are meant to be a reflection of the character that lies within the wearer. This individual has an extremely layered lifestyle, so we created a range of styles that can flex into whatever they're doing: going to work, running errands, hanging out with their families, enjoying drinks with friends, attending events and special occasions, etc.
How did the collaboration come about?
Borenstein: Our customer base is broad, and within the group, we have significant overlap with luxury. When we speak to this segment of the customer base, they share that they are looking for more sustainable luxury options. We have been testing this concept in smaller ways, such as through strategic collaborations with brands like Canada Goose that have a higher price point, and we also have begun introducing higher-end bridal offerings.
How have your signature Brock Collection designs influenced the pieces in The Collection?
Vassar: When I design a collection, whether it's runway, custom bridal, or a collaboration, I'm focused on creating the most beautiful fit possible that flatters and celebrates the figure. At Brock, my mindset was all about bringing old-world romanticism to life. The lens of The Collection is a more modern and everyday approach to luxury but with the same obsession with creating a perfect fit that makes the wearer feel sexy, beautiful, and confident. Almost like armor for their day-to-day life that helps [them] feel like their best self.
How did Reformation's approach to sustainability impact the designs?
Vassar: I learned a lot from Reformation's rigorous sustainability practices throughout the design process. It was a consideration at every turn, from the fabrications we selected to the digital tools we worked with during the sampling process to reduce waste to the actual silhouettes, which are intentionally timeless and meant to be worn for decades to come. There is really nowhere else you shop an edit like this that is so special and sustainable.
What is your approach to building out a closet with wardrobe essentials? How did that weigh into The Collection?
Vassar: I think it goes back to being really intentional, buying only what you truly love and need. Looking for the pieces that make you feel special but are still accessible and wearable for day-to-day life.
How would you describe the aesthetic of The Collection in three words?
Vassar: The Collection is sexy, liveable, and highly edited.
