15 Chic Looks to Try When It's Cold Out This Summer
Just because the summer season is upon us doesn’t mean the temperature doesn’t dip down—especially at night. While your days might consist of sweating your way through a lightweight camisole and jean shorts, your nights might just as easily call for a cashmere sweater or even a leather jacket to keep the evening winds at bay.
This summer, we’re layering up, but we still want to look the part when it comes to our summertime inspiration. As much as 60 degrees might call for a turtleneck and jeans come fall, those winterized pieces are less than welcome—even when the same temperature comes knocking mid-summer. We love to mix proportions, gravitating toward shorts and a chunky knit or long pants and a silk camisole. We’re also stocking up on knits that are heavy enough to keep us warm but light enough to throw in our bag without being cumbersome.
This summer, as we prepare for the coldest of nights that will inevitably follow the hottest of days, we’re drawing a little inspiration from the stylish girls below. You’re going to fall so hard for these super-chic looks that you might even wish for a temperature dip from time to time.
Go for a long-sleeved top that still shows off a little skin. We are currently loving printed styles that are a slightly cropped tie-waist.
Cozy up in a long-sleeved Breton stripe. It’s a timeless classic, especially when paired with ankle-cropped jeans.
Play with proportions like layering a longline blazer over a pair of shorter bottoms.
Layer up: Add a blazer or leather jacket to your summertime go-to of a denim skirt and bright white T-shirt.
With your longer jeans, make a statement in an asymmetrical top, like one that falls off of one shoulder or boasts statement sleeves.
Try out a graphic and sporty top with your classic skinny jeans. Finish off the look with a causal pair of kicks.
Go for a more elegant vibe with a silk midi skirt and striped top that channels Coco Chanel herself.
Layer silk under silk by slipping into a button-down blouse when reaching for that colorful slip dress this summer.
Expose skin in all the right areas, even when wearing long pants and a long-sleeved top, like a cropped top or one that shows off your shoulders.
Go for volume or shape when styling a denim and shirting look. Allover ruffles will always be a summertime favorite.
Channel your inner ’90s babe with a vintage T-shirt, denim skirt, and top it with a leather jacket to keep warm on cold summer nights.
Summer breezes are no match for your bright white midi dress, which you top with a denim jacket to keep warm when the temperature dips.
Pair all the classics together to add and remove at your leisure throughout the day. Consider a look that consists of a denim miniskirt, a white camisole, and a shrunken leather jacket.
Use styling tricks like the “fashion tuck” to make your more covered look a little more interesting with a half-in, half-out job.
Even with long high-waisted pants, you can still get into the summertime mood. Consider a cropped floral top and beach-ready handbag to keep your look seasonally appropriate.

With the above looks, we’re setting out to prove that cold summer nights don’t have to be a downer after all.
