My Summer 2018 Hero Piece
When I'm shopping for summer, there's one idea that comes up over and over again: ease. I'm energized by late sunsets, toastier temperatures, and a certain carefree attitude that takes over. And along with all these changes, also comes a shift in my style. Where in fall I love layering, this time of year, summery tank dresses are all I really want to wear.
Part of the genius about this straightforward pick is the fact that, while it looks great on its own, it can be transformed instantly with the addition of one item like a belt, tee, or jacket. From a statement-making night-out look to a spaghetti-strap style that you can wear to work (yes, really), I'm sharing all the occasions and ways I'm planning on putting this dress style to good use this summer. So read on for a primer on how to make this the hero piece of summer and to shop my favorite styles.
With nice weather comes a rooftop party or two, and when I'm trying to throw together a day-to-night look, I go for a tank dress with fun details like ruching or a hint of sheen. Sneakers and boots are great for dressing this style down, while heels will instantly add glamour.
While we all have different uniforms we revert to for a first date, I've found that a tank dress is an easy choice. For more coverage, try a T-shirt layered underneath or a cool denim jacket on top.
A lightweight white or gingham tank dress is the perfect cover-up now that swimsuit season is in full swing. Add a straw hat and a fun see-through bag (oh, and don't forget sunscreen), and you're ready for a day by the ocean.
While some weekends all we want to do is dress as casually as possible, on days when dressing up to grab a meal with friends is a requirement, a tank dress is an easy daytime choice to style with key trends. Cool boots or sunglasses instantly make your ensemble feel dressed up.
Packing for vacation requires being selective of what you bring along with you, but a tank dress makes for an easy transition piece. Add a belt or layers, swap daytime shoes for evening ones, and with the right moves, you can transition the dress from day to night and from city to country too.
While thin straps may not make for an obvious office-worthy choice, for a more laid-back work environment, it's a perfect choice when layered with a T-shirt or top that offers a bit more coverage. Take it straight to drinks afterward and you'll be good to go.
Whether it's heading out for wine tasting or a day of antiquing, a cute lightweight tank dress is perfect for a little warm-weather getaway.
