The 2023 Guide to What Shoes to Wear With Dresses

@anaasaber; @camillecharriere; @anna__laplacaThis is a story we do pretty much every year when it's getting closer to being warm enough for us to think about wearing dresses again (past example here). That's how relevant it is year after year. Sure, you could easily just throw on a pair of white sneakers with your spring dresses and call it a day, but there's a world of shoe trend possibilities out there, so why not keep things interesting and mix it up?
For 2023, the name of the game when it comes to shoe trends is, well, anything goes. Among the biggest trends of the year, you'll find metallic shoes, knee boots, and Mary Janes, to name a few. But which styles are fashion people wearing with dresses?
I combed through dress outfits on Instagram and countless pairs of new shoes, and these seven trends are pretty much made for dresses. Keep scrolling to shop them all.
Silver Shoes

@camillecharriereIs it just me, or did the metallic-shoe trend kind of come out of nowhere? (Well, I guess Khaite's recent collections might've had something to do with it.) The street style throughout this fashion month has solidified it: Metallic shoes, especially silver ones, are going to be a thing for quite some time.
Adidas Soccer Sneakers

@luciacuesta_People are wearing Adidas soccer sneakers (Samba, Gazelle, etc.) with literally everything, and that includes dresses. I personally love the contrast this combo provides.
Mary Janes

Photo:
@anaasaberMary Janes, whether flat or heeled, and dresses go hand in hand. They're the perfect match for sweet dresses but also add a cool contrast to less-sweet dress styles. The bottom line is you should wear them with any style you please.
Wedge Heels

@anna__laplacaShoes with interesting, sculptural wedge heels feel fresh right now, and they add a modern edge to anything they're paired with. I especially love wedges with minidresses.
Knee Boots

@salome.moryKnee boots and dresses are a no-brainer, but they're so popular right now that I couldn't leave them off the list. They work with any length of dress, which is always a plus.
Slingbacks

@chrissyfordSlingbacks add a dose of elegance to dresses, which is great for special occasions and the office. It's also a timeless style, so you don't have to worry about the "trend" fading away.
Platforms

@emilisindlevPlatforms aren't a new trend, but they're an enduring one. Fashion people love pairing them with short dresses especially.
