These Cool-Girl Fragrances Are the Chicer Versions of Body Mists I Loved in 2005
Elevated, sophisticated, and effortless.

The year is 2005. I'm getting ready to go to the mall with my friend (her mom is going to drop us off because neither of us is old enough to drive ourselves). We're listening to Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani, and Black Eyed Peas as I decide which body mist to use. I have classics such as Victoria's Secret Love Spell, Bath & Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar, and a no-name bottle of a blue raspberry–scented solution that I purchased at Claire's. I choose the latter and douse myself in a dripping cloud of it. Life is good.
Fast-forward 20 years, and I'm a beauty editor who thinks fondly about her foray into fragrance. These days, my vanity is crowded with high-end glass bottles, but I still welcome body mists into the mix, mostly because I never could have guessed how chic and elevated the 2025 versions would be.
I love body mists from By Rosie Jane, Sol de Janeiro, and Ouai, but the majority of my collection comes from Phlur. The cool-girl fragrance brand won't stop releasing dual body-and-hair mists, and I won't stop spritzing them. In fact, I've begun to collect them like I used to collect CDs, keychains, and HitClips (IYKYK). Ahead, I review all 12 of Phlur's Hair & Body Mists, from a beach-inspired coconut scent to a sultry amber scent and beyond. Let's go.
Vanilla Skin
Notes: Sugar crystals, cashmere wood, vanilla
I love vanilla perfumes, as long as they're not too sweet or cloying. This one is neither of those two things (despite the fact that sugar crystals are one of the key notes). Instead, it's soft, subtle, and skin-like with a round, creamy quality that makes it smell intimate and familiar without necessarily screaming "perfume." I'm guessing that's thanks to the cashmere wood note. Regardless, it reminds me of another skin scent and my all-time favorite Phlur perfume, Missing Person ($99), for that very reason. It's equally as cozy and sultry.
Coconut Skin
Notes: Coconut, frangipani, salted amber
Choosing a favorite Phlur Body & Hair Mist feels impossible, but if I were in a dire situation and declaring my ultimate love for one of them was the only solution, I'd choose Coconut Skin. I love beachy-inspired fragrances, but this isn't your typical sunscreen-y scent. The coconut note is creamy and mellow. The frangipani adds a decadent sweetness. Last but not least, the salted amber note adds an oceanic allure. I'm obsessed with it, so I'm not surprised to see I'm going through it faster than almost any other on my vanity.
Beach Skin
Notes: Bergamot, salted tiare flower, sandalwood
Speaking of beach-inspired scents, Phlur's Beach Skin Body & Hair Mist is a must-have, but not just for summer. I plan on wearing it year-round, whenever I need a fresh solar scent that reminds me of warmth and sunshine. Maybe it's because I'm a sucker for bergamot, but I find the citrus-floral topnotes serene and uplifting. A base of sandalwood and coconut milk gives it a grounded and sophisticated feel. It's a creamy, airy, golden-hour escape, bottled.
Peach Skin
Notes: Peach, vanilla orchid, white freesia
I love peach scents, but they can smell too obvious or even artificial if they're not done well. This one is light, ripe, and sparkling thanks to added notes of soft vanilla orchid and breezy white freesia. I crave this scent the same way other people might crave peach cobbler, but I don't think I'd wear this one outside of spring and summer. As is the case for the fruit, I think the warmer months are its natural season.
Heavy Cream
Notes: Whipped cream, coconut cream, jasmine blossom, vanilla mouse
Usually, I don't love true gourmand scents. Maybe it's because I associate them with kitschy celebrity perfumes from the early 2000s, but notes like whipped cream, coconut cream, and vanilla mousse would normally send me running in the other direction. (I don't know if you can tell by now, but I have a strong distaste for syrupy sweet scents.) However, I should have had more trust in Phlur because this perfume is lovely. The brand describes it with adjectives like "luminous," "velvety," and "silky," and I have to agree. It's surprisingly sophisticated, evoking the airy Swiss meringue that sits atop a delicate French pastry.
Vanilla Nectar
Notes: Papaya nectar, apricot, honeyed amber
Vanilla Nectar is an interesting scent. It's a playful mashup of traditionally distinct fragrance notes—50% warm, creamy vanilla and 50% juicy tropical fruit. While I tend to reach for Vanilla Skin over this one, I appreciate its singularity and the fact that it really does evoke a rich nectar thanks to sugared, caramelized, and honeyed notes.
Mango Mood
Notes: Mango, jasmine, brown sugar
I love citrus perfumes when they're done well, and actually, my all-time favorite one is Phlur's Tangerine Boy ($99). It's bright, zesty, and spicy—one of those rare scents that marry citrus with sophistication. This one is no different, albeit a little more fruit-forward.
I love the splashy scent of the mango with the subtle floral scent of the jasmine. It's bright and invigorating, which is why I'm keeping this close at hand. The brand describes it as a "chic and sultry tropical escape," and I must say, I'm catching the same vibe.
Dragon Fruit
Notes: Dragonfruit, plum blossom, sandalwood
If you love Sol de Janiero's Body Mists, I highly recommend you try this one. To me, it smells similar to the Brazilian beauty brand's fruity-floral concoctions. That's because it features similar notes, including tart pineapple, juicy dragonfruit, and ripe watermelon. There are also pink florals, amber, and vanilla for depth.
Amber Haze
Notes: Saffron, jasmine absolute, amber
This is a true amber fragrance, and as such, it smells warm and sultry. It's not so simple that it's just amber, though. There's some complexity to it, thanks to a floral note of jasmine and earthy saffron. The brand uses adjectives like "opulent," "intoxicating," and "sensual" to describe this one, and I agree. Out of all the Body & Hair Mists, I think this one is basically begging to be worn on date night.
Moonstone
Notes: Green apple, jasmine, sandalwood
Blame it on DKNY's iconic Be Delicious Eau de Parfum, but I love apple scents. They're so fresh and crisp, even slightly aquatic. This "magical potion" of a fragrance is certainly apple-forward, so if you're not a fan, I wouldn't suggest reaching for it. However, as it dries down, you catch the sweet jasmine and creamy sandalwood notes, which lend it an elevated air. Every time I wear it, I'm reminded of the poison apple in Snow White, as it's crisp, juicy, and tempting.
Vanilla Smoke
Notes: Cashmere vanilla, incense, cacao blanc
With notes of incense, cacao, balsam, and amber, this scent is smooth, deep, and complex. It's a plate of vanilla cookies set next to a sputtering fire. It's steady rain pattering the window. It's incense swirling in silent air. Out of all of Phlur's Body & Hair Mists, this one is the most androgynous. It's neither traditionally masculine nor feminine, but a genderless middle ground. If you like chic, moody scents, this is the one for you.
Mrs. Smith
Notes: Granny Smith apple, pear, apple blossom
Just like the Granny Smith apples it was inspired by, this fragrance is sweet, tart, and crisp. I also pick up on a candied element thanks to added notes of praline and musk nectar. In fact, the first time I wore it, I was reminded of green apple Jolly Ranchers. Bright! Sweet! Mouthwatering!
