6 Major Trends Dominating Street Style in Paris
At fashion month, we got a preview of the trends that are set to be big for spring 2024 but also how style is unfolding for fall on the street style scene and the key buys of the moment. At Paris Fashion Week, we always see a sense of sophistication alongside trend-forward pieces, and this season was no exception. Attendees at the S/S 24 shows set the tone for how looks will unfold in the coming months with both cool, understated pieces and eye-catching garments alike.
We’ve been predicting that bold red shades would take over, and we saw plenty of evidence of it on the streets of Paris—plus another color that is gaining momentum. Fall has also been marked by shifting silhouettes, fresh materials, and new ways of styling staples like sweaters that push looks to the next level. Ahead, see the top street style trends from Paris Fashion Week.
Cherry Red
Bold, fiery red may be the biggest trend to know for fall, but cherry red is also in the running. The color was a key shade in Sabato De Sarno's debut collection for Gucci S/S 24, and insiders were quick to adopt it in their Paris Fashion Week looks. Tap into the trend with an accessory or a head-to-toe look.
A-Line Skirts
In past seasons, oversize silhouettes reigned supreme, but we're seeing new shapes dominate for fall. Waist-cinching A-line skirts are particularly noteworthy and one of the key buys to add to your wardrobe for the season. Take styling notes from Paris and wear yours with a simple tee or button-down shirt.
Sweater-as-a-Scarf
Sweaters aren't exactly groundbreaking, but what is interesting is how they're being styled. Instead of wearing sweaters pulled overhead, the style set is draping them over their shoulders like a scarf with the sleeves tied in a knot. This is not only a perfect transitional look but also an easy styling trick to implement with pieces you probably already own.
Modern Minimalism
Modern minimalism reigned at Paris Fashion Week. The style set reached for pared-back pieces like trench coats, sleek bags, and heels that were executed simply yet perfectly. The key to wearing minimalist pieces well is all about restraint.
Patent Leather
One of the most expected trends we saw in Paris? Patent leather. While the futuristic material lends immediate edge, look for pieces in more timeless shapes such as an A-line skirt, a trench coat, or slingback heels. Classic pieces have never looked so cool.
Red
We've been talking at length about the fiery-red trend that was everywhere in the F/W 23 collections, and it's taking hold in a major way. The street style looks in Paris are leaving no doubt this is the color of the season.
