11 Trends We're Saying Goodbye to This Fall

A new season means a host of new trends for the taking. And with fall just around the corner, we’re beyond excited to get ahead of the new styles we’ll be sporting once the leaves turn brown. That means it’s time to say goodbye to certain passé trends to make room for some fresh, new ones. (Also, a handy philosophy for preventing an overwhelmingly jam-packed wardrobe.) From the cowboy-boot trend we exhausted this year to tie-dye tops that are causing us major sartorial fatigue, scroll below as we break down the trends we’re saying sayonara to this autumn—and, of course, the ones we’re saying hello to instead.

Goodbye: Cowboy Boots
Hello: Lace-Up Boots

Cowboy boots have saturated our feeds for the past couple years, and we think it’s now time to step into chic lace-up boots instead. Okay, so they may require a little more effort to actually put on, but they were a huge hit on the fall runways and are a refreshingly modern style we simply can’t wait to wear.

Goodbye: Millennial Pink
Hello: Millennial Mint

Mover over, Millennial Pink: There’s a pretty new hue in town, and it’s set to dominate come fall. From pistachio to mint to and sage, pale green hues have had a major presence on the runways, and fashion girls have been quick to take on the trend.

Goodbye: Boxy Silhouettes
Hello: Cinched Waists

If there was one standout accessory on practically every fall runway, it was belts. Cinched over blazers, dresses, coats, and tops, whether wide or thin, they create a flattering silhouette and are unquestionably a must-have for your fall wardrobe.

Goodbye: Tie-Dye
Hello: Snake Print

Is your head spinning from seeing too much psychedelic tie-dye? Ours too. Store away the summery ’60s print and opt for luxurious separates in fall’s must-have snake print instead.

Goodbye: Skinny, Tight Pants
Hello: Loose, Languid Trousers

Say sayonara to those tight trousers and instead opt for the loose, languid pants we saw all over the fall runways. They look sophisticated and elegant with blouses, tank tops, sweaters, and blazers alike.

Goodbye: Grandma Cardigans
Hello: Capes

Okay, so by the time the cooler weather rolls around, we’re undoubtedly going to be reaching for our cardigans, but how about switching it out for a cape or cloak? It’s a fashion-forward silhouette that will make a seriously chic statement.

Goodbye: Vinyl Coats
Hello: Quilted Coats

We’re taking a break from the shiny plastic and vinyl coats of the past few seasons, and instead opting for sumptuous quilted coats that look and feel much more luxurious.

Goodbye: PVC Shoes
Hello: Mock-Croc Shoes

Clear PVC shoes have had their moment, but now it’s time for something more grown-up and opulent. Mock-croc shoes will be one of the biggest shoe trends you’ll see this fall, so it’s time to jump on them.

Goodbye: Fabric Chokers
Hello: Long Crystal Earrings

Long crystal earrings sashayed down the catwalks of some of the biggest designers. Ditch the fabric chokers and opt for some sparkly ear candy instead.

Goodbye: Headbands
Hello: Ribbon-Tied Silk Scarves

At the beginning of the year, we couldn’t scroll through our Insta feed without seeing a thick, padded headband adorning the hair of our favorite fashion muses. But this fall, a new accessory is about to take over… The bougie silk scarf tied as a ribbon around your neck is the chicest finishing touch to your outfit—most popularly spotted on the runway at Celine.

Goodbye: Acid-Wash Jeans
Hello: Indigo Denim

The ’80s acid-wash jean trend was already hard to stomach when it made a comeback this year. Thankfully, we’re now saying goodbye to the Saved by the Bell look and opting for a rigid deep-indigo jeans instead. A huge trend this fall.
