It Wasn't Easy, But I Just Evicted These 6 Boot Trends From My Closet

I'm quite fond of a good old-fashioned closet clean-out, but I hate getting rid of shoes. I don't often wear out my shoes to the point of having to throw them away, but when I go years without wearing a pair, it's obvious that they're just taking up space in my closet.

I've just returned from an end-of-summer vacation, and I've never been more in the mood to free up space for new fall items. And since boots take up a significant amount of room, they're up first. There are several styles I've admittedly been hanging on to for far too long, and I'm finally ready to part with them. The good news is that it's an incentive to do some shopping for new boots.

Scroll on to find out which dated boot trends I'm parting with and which fresh trends I'm trading them for this fall.

Buying: Red Boots

Remember when white was the only boot color that mattered? While I'm certainly not opposed to wearing them, I'm much more interested in red boots this season. In fact, it's the boot trend I might be buying first.

Buying: Unique Sock Boots

While I don't hate slouchy boots, I find them difficult to style. The new era of sock boots is upon us, and there are so many more interesting styles than the stretchy neoprene ones that were everywhere the last time they were a trend.

Buying: Pointed-Toe Boots

I definitely don't need to buy any more plain round-toe boots. There are far more interesting options out there. For instance, pointed-toe boots are making a big comeback this fall. I like how they instantly make any outfit look cool, and since I haven't bought a pair in awhile, I'll be adding them to my shopping list.

Buying: Western Boots

The Western boot trend continues this fall, and every brand from affordable to luxury is offering up its take on the trend. I'm partial to Khaite's perfect Western boots but am keeping an open mind.

Buying: Moto Boots

Miu Miu reopened our eyes to moto boots last fall, and now everyone has officially caught on. I prefer the subtler takes on the biker trend, but there are plenty of options to choose from in varying degrees of moto-ness.

Evicted: Chunky Lug-Sole Boots

Buying: Riding Boots

I still love lug-sole boots for inclement weather, but the super-chunky ones that everyone was wearing a few seasons ago aren't really speaking to me anymore. I'd rather put my money toward a pair of sleek, timeless riding boots.
