I Have Relaxed, Classic Style—4 Easy Yet Elevated Outfit Formulas I'll Rotate This Winter
Winter dressing is about being prepared for whatever weather the UK throws at us. Scroll down for the four easy but elegant outfit formulas I rely on all season.
As the air turns crisp and the days grow shorter, I find myself shifting from the ease and playfulness of summer into a more considered winter rhythm.
For me, dressing during these months is all about combining comfort with something a bit more polished. It’s a chance to play with structure, texture and proportion in a way that feels lived-in rather than overthought. I like clean lines, great fabrics and silhouettes that move with me; it’s all about the everyday pieces that feel elevated yet require barely any effort to put together. I lean into layering with knits, scarves and hats; a tailored coat thrown over a jumper with jeans and loafers; and textures that meet in unexpected ways. I love the idea of mixing leather with wool, suede with cotton, or tailoring with relaxed elements.
Colour-wise, I love navy, camel, charcoal and black. Then, I add accents of warm rust, olive and deep burgundy—and perhaps even a pop of bright red when I want a hint of seasonality. Accessories are key: a good scarf, jewellery, a statement belt or a vintage piece can give an outfit soul. The goal is to feel like myself, not like I’m sacrificing wearability or comfort for fashion. So whilst I might adopt a more luxurious fabric or an oversized silhouette for winter, I’m still navigating the work/mum balance, and it has to be practical.
Winter dressing for me is about being prepared for cold, rain and everything else the UK weather throws at us, but doing it stylishly. It’s about that perfect coat, the knit you actually want to wear as soon as possible and the boots or loafers that work seven days a week. That’s how I approach the season.
4 Easy But Elegant Outfits I Rely On in Winter
1. Tailored Coat + T-Shirt + Jeans
Style Notes: I love the balance of a sharp-shouldered, tailored coat over something as simple as jeans and a tee. It feels strong but easy, like you’ve made an effort without really trying. Once it gets colder, I’ll layer in a chunky knit to add warmth and texture.

2. Wool Coat + Cashmere Knit + Suede Trousers
Style Notes: Suede trousers instantly add texture to an outfit, and I love the colour of these. Paired with a black wool coat and a soft cashmere jumper, it’s a clean, tonal look that’s both classic and quietly luxe: my version of understated winter dressing.

3. Faux-Fur Coat + Barrel-Leg Jeans + Ankle Boots
Style Notes: This is my most polished look: a statement faux-fur coat with heeled ankle boots. It’s perfect for meetings or events when I want to feel put-together but still myself. The coat does all the work, so I keep everything else simple and streamlined.

4. Leather Jacket + Loafers + Tartan Scarf
Style Notes: A leather jacket and a tartan scarf are my forever staples. I’ll wear them with jeans and loafers for that easy, thrown-on look that always works. It’s relaxed and perfect for everyday dressing.
