5 Spring Hat Trends That'll Make Your Outfits Cooler and Save You From Bad Hair Days
I'm throwing these on.
Spring is finally here. No more walking around with bulky, frumpy layers, and no more bulky hats either. This spring, I'm still throwing on a hat, but it's not to stay warm; it's to hide any bad hair days that might come up from my extra-busy spring schedule. I don't always have time to do my hair, so a chic hat will have to save the day from time to time.
Hat trends are rarely on my radar, but lately I've been contemplating just how busy this season will be. Now, my daily scrolls on Instagram are filled with new hat trends to try for spring. My search for a hat trend involves two things: ease of putting it on and how chic it is with an outfit. As long as those two criteria are met, I'll throw on a hat all season.
If you're in search of a chic hat to throw on to save you from the occasional bad hair day, keep scrolling to shop each trend I've discovered.
Bucket Hats
I love a bucket hat in the spring and summer. I'm especially into crochet bucket hats for this season. They are a little chicer than the usual nylon or cotton bucket hats. Try styling yours with an airy top, shorts, and sandals. I'll be wearing mine similarly. If you're brave and looking for bold ways to style a bucket hat, try a linen set and throw a blazer over it.
It's no surprise that fashion people are returning to this trend. Bucket hats offer a sense of casual cool to any look, which is what I'm going for. If I have to live through more bad hair days, a bucket hat is at least a stylish way to do so.

Logo Baseball Caps
A logo baseball hat is a ubiquitous trend during spring. They aren't new and aren't going anywhere. If you have some you haven't worn in a while, trust me, dust one off and throw it on with literally any outfit for an effortlessly cool effect. If you're into laid-back outfits for spring already, then this look below is a great template to go by. If it's a chilly spring day, try layering a barn jacket over a simple button-down paired with baggy cargo pants and boots.
If you enjoy a contrast to your outfits, try styling a baseball cap with a dress or a shirt and skirt to give off a cool-girl vibe for spring. I love it when a piece is styled unexpectedly. While a logo baseball cap is a simple accessory, it's also a very versatile one.

Backward Flat Caps
Thanks to Love Story, I've already noticed a ton of fashion-forward people wearing a backward flat cap for spring. They look cool with literally any outfit and add a casual element to a look that spring dressers are looking for. I'd style mine like this look below. Influencers have been getting so creative with this hat trend, but this look is more my speed. It's simple, cool, and laid-back, which is a perfect combination for spring. A simple polo in a bright spring color paired with jeans and vibrant sneakers for another pop of color is an outfit that I'm going to have to copy.
If you want to try another way to style your flat cap in a chicer way, go the JFK Jr. route with a crisp white tee paired with black trousers and flats, or wear yours with a button-down and skirt for a fun contrast.

Crochet Skull Caps
Crochet skull caps are my favorite trend out of the bunch. They are unexpected and playful. I wouldn't have thought to try this until other cool girls, like Elisa pictured below, started sporting them. I saw them everywhere during my month in Europe. Try a crochet skull cap to dress up your look. If you're running around during a warm day and need just one more thing to zhuzh up your outfit, a crochet skull cap is the way to go. For example, the look below is playful already, but the addition of a crochet cap makes the outfit look a bit more intentional.
If you're just trying to cover up your roots from an overdue dye job, try styling this trend with a linen dress and heeled sandals for a chic spring vibe, or wear it with a simple tee, jeans, and flats with a lightweight jacket layered over your outfit.

Silk Scarves + Bandanas
Silk scarves and bandanas are definitely taking over this spring and into the summer. My bad hair days are always covered up with one of these trends. When you know you might be having not the best hair day, a silk scarf or bandana is actually a chic addition to your outfits. I'm wearing a few of mine over my outgrown braids with a simple but sophisticated button-down, like the look below, paired with jeans and simple black flats.
If you want to make your outfit look more interesting than my go-to, though, try styling a silk scarf or bandana with a simple tank top, a sleek pair of black barrel pants, and a pair of pointed-toe shoes. No one would ever have to know that you're having a bad hair day because you'd look so chic.
