I'm a Fashion Director With a Lot of Clothes—These Are My Favorite Trends Now
We routinely turn to industry leaders for that top-notch styling and shopping guidance. One of said experts? Yep, Shopbop’s Fashion Director, Caroline Maguire. Her sartorial POV is particularly heightened given that it’s her job to lead the fashion team at one of the largest retailers out there. As a result, her style advice is always particularly noteworthy. Given the nature of her job, she also happens to have a pretty expansive wardrobe, so yes, it’s safe to say that she’s experimented with quite a variety of clothing and trends. On that note, we thought there could be interest in learning about those specific items and trends Maguire is loving most right now.
She ended up sending over a list of five spring 2021 trends she’s either already wearing now and/or is looking forward to testing out over the next few months. Here, we’re talking about everything from updated loungewear looks to other chic comfy staples. With all that in mind, keep scrolling to uncover the trends worth knowing, complete with visual inspiration. There are also shopping picks throughout just in case you want to add something fresh into your rotation.
1. Pull-On Pants
"I love easy, comfy pants right now (especially sweatpants). It’s such a fun challenge for me to find ways to dress up sweats, and find fun tops or sweaters to pair with them."—Maguire
2. Novelty Knits
"I can’t get enough of novelty knits! They really dress up any outfit and there are so many different styles to play with—from cutouts and oversize cardigans to bold colors and daring prints."
3. Easy Dresses
"I like to call these types of styles the 'chic house dress.' They’re easy and comfortable no-brainer dresses that I can just throw on."
4. Old-School Sneakers
"I am loving that more old-school sneaker styles are coming back into our rotation. The V-10 sneakers from Veja [below] encapsulate this trend perfectly. The subtle pastel colors add a bit of flair and make them feel fresh."
5. Totes and Hands-Free Bags
"When I’ve been going outside, I’ve mostly been running errands to grab groceries or go to the pharmacy, so I’m all about easy totes and crossbody bags that can carry all of my essentials and what I’m purchasing. Think bags that are the perfect size for your keys, hand sanitizer, wallet, and sunglasses."
