I'm the Head of Design at Old Navy—These Are the 4 Denim Trends That Matter This Fall
As someone who lives in jeans, I've become a bit of a snob when it comes to shopping for denim. One of my best-kept secrets for affordable jeans? Old Navy. As a fashion editor, I've had the chance to try and test several denim styles from the affordable retailer, and I'm always pleasantly surprised with the results. Not only are its silhouettes trend-forward, but they're also incredibly comfortable. Needless to say, Old Navy has mastered some of the most flattering fits.
With fall just around the corner, I got the chance to chat with Old Navy's Head of Design and Product Development, Sarah Holme, about the brand's new fall denim campaign, launching today, featuring model Grace Elizabeth. Below, Holme shares some of the must-have silhouettes to buy from its denim lineup, from slouchy styles to straight-leg silhouettes. If you're looking for new jeans that don't break the bank, take a look at these must-have styles below. The best part? They're all under $50.
What are the key jean silhouettes every woman should try for fall 2025 and why? Are these then the front-runners in the campaign?
Yes, our key silhouettes this fall are all the stars of our campaign. Our fall denim campaign is about celebrating the versatility of style. The trend is no longer about one fit; it's about which fit you are feeling today.
We have the Vintage Slim. Yes, it's a return to skinny with our high-rise skinny jeans that stretch to fit. It's snug through the waist, hip, and thigh.
Next is the Extra High Rise Straight, fitted at the waist and featuring a slight ease at the hip and thigh. Think '90s vintage.
We are really excited about our Barrel. It's a high-rise barrel ankle denim that features a comfortable fit at the waist and a relaxed fit through the hip and thigh. Stylish with some edge.
And the Slouchy Wide is our newest style for fall of 2025, a slouchy wide leg with a ton of attitude. It is mid-rise and super relaxed at the waist, hip, and thigh.
What are the best shoe styles to pair with the styles you mentioned in question one?
The Vintage Slim needs a sharp heel. Dress it up. The skinny jean is back, and she deserves a fun night out.
The Extra High-Rise straight. We are loving a loafer for a classic American studious retro vibe.
The Barrel has a natural style edge to it, so team it with an It sneaker for a sportier look—ideally, in a bright color pop.
For the Slouchy, anything goes; that's the fun of it. A barely there sandal, an Audrey ballet flat, a colorful retro sneaker, or a towering high heel. You can't go wrong with how much attitude this jean has.
Aside from jeans, what other denim trends will be popular this fall?
The biggest denim trend for fall is to choose your own adventure. Make your own rules. It's not about the one fit, we just want you to feel good and look great, no matter the day or your mood. Old Navy prides itself on offering style at unmatched value, so customers can play with style choices and have fun doing it without breaking the bank. "You do you" is the denim trend.
