I'll just come right out and say it: I'm a trend sniper. I usually try almost every trend because I like to be the first to test-drive the latest silhouettes so it's safe to say that it takes a lot for me to overlook the current trends of the season. But right now, I'm doing just that. To ensure I fill my closet with more timeless pieces than fleeting ones this season, I've been leaning into wardrobe classics more than ever.

In fact, fashion essentials on the more plain end of the spectrum have been resonating so much so that I've shifted my entire focus towards wearing and shopping for them, with hardly any trends in sight. To me, it says a lot about the value of the simpler pieces in my closet if they can manage to eclipse even the buzziest of new trends and the seven staples I'm highlighting here have officially earned my undivided attention. Whether it be the one denim style that always looks good, the simple white tanks I'm buying in bulk, or the elevated shoulder bags that go with literally everything, I'm completely smitten with these classic fashion essentials.

1. White Ribbed Tanks

Ribbed racer tanks are proof that sometimes the simpler, the better. I keep these tanks on hand at all times and I tend to buy them in bulk so that I always have a bright-white version to reach for.

2. Poplin Button-Downs

Whether I'm using it as a layering piece, wearing it solo, or unbuttoning it as a light jacket, plain poplin shirts are quickly becoming my closet's most-worn item.

3. Medium-Wash Jeans

Dress them up or throw them on casually, there's nowhere a pair of medium-wash jeans can't go. Even better is a pair with a high rise and tailored straight-leg fit. Denim perfection, in my opinion.

4. Simple Shoulder Bags

While I love a fun bag trend, I keep coming back to my simplest shoulder bags because they're always a fail-safe pick.

5. Black Sunglasses

This one may not require any explanation but I'll give you one anyway. Classic black sunglasses look cool, polished, and won't compete with the rest of your outfit. Oh, and the right shape will be stylish for all of eternity.

6. Court Sneakers

Low-top sneakers are always in rotation in my closet, but right now, I'm particularly excited about cool court sneakers that lend a subtly retro, sporty feel.

7. Crew-Neck Tees

I'm such a hoarder of plain crew-neck tees, that I wrote an entire story about my top picks. If I had to describe the best kind, though, it would be one in a plain neutral tone with a boxy fit.
