Editors Choose This Pair of Heels Over Flats Even on Busy Meeting Days
Turns out that fashion editors find kitten heels more comfortable than flats. Here’s why we’re all obsessed.
One time, I asked my coworkers what their favorite flats were for an article I was working on, but also out of curiosity, because I assumed everyone had a pair they swore by for long days of appointments and showrooms. Instead, the response I got made me laugh: more than half the team said they actually prefer kitten heels. Somehow, the idea that a group of stylish fashion editors feels more comfortable in heels than in flats just made perfect sense.
It got me thinking about why kitten heels have become such a mainstay in our wardrobes. For editors constantly running around the city (from cobblestone streets to office hallways), they strike the perfect balance of polish and practicality. They instantly elevate even the simplest outfit and, surprisingly, tend to be easier on your feet than many of the comfortable flat shoes I was sold on, only to discover that they left me covered in blisters. So I asked my coworkers why they love them and made a shopping list of the pairs I’m most excited to buy for myself.

“These immediately became my everyday kitten heels when I got them a few months ago. They're surprisingly comfy and look sophisticated, whether I'm wearing them with jeans or a cocktail dress. Though I am very much the type of person who will wear high heels for no reason, I do enjoy the respite a kitten heel provides. They give heel energy without all the trouble that comes with wearing super-tall shoes.”

“I’m much more of a flat shoe and sneaker girl, but kitten heels give me the confidence boost (and comfort) to strut around the city in any outfit. They just elevate anything I wear. This pair from Mango is wallet-friendly, and its ruched leather texture is so chic to me.”
Nikki Chwatt, Associate Fashion Editor
“As a 5’1” woman, I'm always looking for excuses to wear heels; however, when the setting isn't right for my 2.5- or 3-inch shoes, I opt for kitten heels. Kitten heels help me stand a little bit taller with my shoulders back, tricking my mind into feeling about five-foot-three and more confident. My favorite style is the Cameo by Tony Bianco because they look like The Row's Liisa kitten heels but come without the designer price tag. Plus, they're incredibly comfortable. I've walked about 10K steps in them in a single day around NYC.”

In a time where flats have truly stolen the show, I haven't been able to let go of my kitten heels. In this photo, I not only biked to an event but walked 2 miles back home in these Dolce Vita heels without any problems. As a New Yorker, I need shoes that I can really walk in as I just prefer being outside than in an uber or subway so kitten heels have become my go-to and you'll rarely find me limping around just to make a pair of stilettos complete the look.
