Confession: I give up too easily when it comes to getting dressed. When I'm short on inspiration, I tend to revert back to a uniform: jeans, a T-shirt, and sneakers or sandals. But, with temperatures steadily creeping up in NYC, I'm finally feeling motivated to break out of my style rut and try on something new for size. Instead of my normal ensemble, I'm craving a few new ideas that, while casual, still feel cool and different.
While I know it's not exactly novel, I find Instagram to be the best place for a quick bolt of inspiration. The social media site is flooded with #OOTD pictures from women whose style I admire in New York, Los Angeles, and even across the globe. Below, I've rounded up seven of those looks that I've set aside to try the next time I'm feeling stuck. Some are cool enough for a weekend drink date with friends while others are more meant for the office. Basically, I've covered all the casual-ish occasions I may need to dress for. As an added bonus, I shopped out pieces to help you pull off my new go-to looks too!
Color clashing is a must-try trend this summer, and no colors feel quite as fun as pale purple and green. Finished off with a beaded bag, it's an ensemble that's fashion forward and fun, too.

I'm all for high-low dressing, which is why I love the idea of styling a casual sweatshirt with flirty furry heels. It makes for an ensemble that's easy to take from day to night.

Available in size 6.
While I'm all for embracing color, there's something to be said for trying a relaxed look of head-to-toe neutrals, too. Linen trousers and a tank are the ideal combination for a hot New York day.

While sweaters may not seem like the go-to for summer, I'm loving the look of a cropped style paired with a polished skirt and sneakers. It's a little bit '90s but still feels of the moment.

All hail the Hawaiian shirt! While it may be a style you usually associate with tourists, I like the idea of giving it a modern twist by pairing it with a polished blazer and boots.
Available in sizes 36 to 42.
Available in sizes X to 3X.
While heels may be the automatic choice for a floaty dress, I like to dress things down and add a bit of edge by throwing in chunky flatforms.

Sure, you could wear a dress all on its own, but to mix things up, why not leave it partly unbuttoned and style it like a top with jeans? The result is cool but still polished.

Now you're armed with the inspiration you need for warm-weather dressing. Let's do this, summer.
