I Only Shop for Activewear on Black Friday—Here's What I'm Buying
Don't get me wrong, I love shopping for activewear. If I didn't, I wouldn't be managing editor of this site. But one thing I don't love? Spending a fortune on my gym clothes. I understand that you've got to shell out the big bucks for the high-quality stuff—the pieces that will keep you dry during hot yoga and the gear that will support you when you're doing the most in a HIIT class—but since I consider myself an extreme couponer at heart, it's hard for me to shell out over $100 for leggings.
That's why when Black Friday rolls around, I stock up on my favorite luxe activewear brands and hope that I'm all set until next year. Sometimes I succeed, and sometimes I just have to buy that seasonal crop top and leggings set during the summer because it's limited edition, so cute, and will motivate me to go to the gym. Overall, with a few exceptions throughout the year, I try to reserve my bulk activewear purchases for the day after Thanksgiving in preparation for whatever fitness New Year's resolution awaits me.
If you're planning on joining me with an annual activewear stock-up, take a look at what I'm eyeing:
Leggings
There's a reason Lululemon leggings are so popular: They're sweat-wicking and stretchy while being ultra-supportive. They also have 17 colors to choose from. I find them super comfortable enough to wear them while running errands or lounging around my apartment.
Bloomingdales has a pretty awesome Black Friday deal right now—take 15% off when you spend $100, 20% off $250, and 25% off $400+. So basically they're just telling me the more leggings I buy, the more I'll save. I'm in.
If you're a regular reader here on THE/THIRTY, you know that Zella leggings are a big favorite. They're affordable, high-quality, and so comfortable. And Nordstrom customers agree, too—the Live-In leggings have over 6.3K reviews and 4.5 stars.
I've become more and more comfortable wearing patterned leggings to workout classes now. One, I realized people don't care. And two, being excited about what kind of activewear I have on makes me even more motivated and happy to be at the gym. So, I would happily don these fun and tough camo print leggings.
Here's another way to stay out at the gym. Shine bright in this pair of ultra-shiny, hologram leggings.
The two-tone look is still going strong. These leggings have a rib-knit bottom to make them extra form-fitting and in place.
Take these moto-inspired leggings from the gym to the bar (or just brunch). It has mesh paneling and is made of moisture-wicking, stretchy fabric.
You can't go wrong with adding some Outdoor Voices leggings to your cart. The brand is offering 25% off online and in stores this Black Friday.
Sports Bras
This classic sports bra has a mesh racerback for breathability. It also comes with removable padded cups.
The mesh panels on this bralette means you're getting extra breathability, which is important if you're going to be in a hot gym or studio.
With cross back straps, you can move freely and comfortably. This one's best for moderate workouts.
The high neck on this sports bra is both unique and supportive. You can wear this one on its own or with a tank over it.
If you've ever spent ages trying to take off your sports bra after a workout class, you know the struggle is real. That's why this zip bra is genius—it's so easy to take off, but it still has extra support.
Tops
I like to have a week's worth of tank tops in my activewear wardrobe so my lazy self doesn't have to do laundry in between workouts. At under $10, these mesh tanks are a no brainer.
The banded hem on this tank makes it more form-fitting so you can go into any inverted yoga poses without a worry.
Made of the softest jersey fabric, this tee is perfect for layering over your sports bra. Can we get one in every color?
Made of recycled fabric, this tank is super soft and lightweight. The knotted front keeps it in place while you're moving.
For medium- to high-intensity workouts, this form-fitting tank will make it easier for you to move freely during reps.
Outerwear
Whether you're planning on continuing your outdoor workouts during the wintry season, or just need something to put on before or after a gym session, a hoodie is a must-have. This one is lightweight, breathable, but will still keep you warm.
Take this zip-up hoodie with you on your next run. It comes in black or gray.
Throw this cozy turtleneck over before and after your workout or just any time you want to wear something warm and comfy.
The tulip hem on this hoodie makes it stand out from the others out there. It's super soft and stretchy and comes in black, dark red, and gray.
This jacket is pretty cool—it's made from 100% recycled polyester, making it eco-friendly. It comes in dark red, bright red, gray, black, yellow, and white.
You might be tired of us going on and on about the cozy, fuzzy jacket activewear trend, but don't knock it until you tried it. I can spend a whole weekend in mine.
Shoes and Accessories
Not only do I like to score my favorite leggings and sports bras at major discounts during Black Friday, but I also use the opportunity to get those sneakers that I've been eyeing. These have been on my wish list for a while.
You're going to want to bring this tote with you everywhere, whether it's the gym or office. It holds so much stuff.
This running shoe has sock-fit so it stays super snug no matter what you're doing. It also has a foam sole to stabilize and support.
Keep your ears warm and your hair out of your face with this headband. It's easy to care for too: Just throw it in the wash when it gets dirty.
You're going to need some gloves if you live in colder climates and plan on training outdoors. These are both stretchy and grippy, and there's a small pocket for a key.
