So of course, we were fascinated to find out what fashion fanatics have been loving this year from luxury retailers Net-a-Porter and MatchesFashion.

It will come as no surprise that comfy separates and practical layers made up a large percentage of the line-up—think puffer jackets, combat boot, and knitted co-ords. However, there were a few curveballs, such as fine jewellery and designer accessories. "We have seen a real uplift in customers making more considered handbag purchases," explains a buyer from Matches. "Heritage styles from the big fashion houses continue to be popular, styles which are timeless, work hard in your wardrobe, and which you will treasure forever."
