Ingredients: For starters, you'll want a formula that contains a moisturizing base that includes humectants to nourish and support the skin barrier. "Avoid harsh detergents like SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) that can strip the skin of moisture," she says. "Also avoid antibacterial formulations unless you need them for a specific reason, but otherwise, choose options that are microbiome friendly."
Skin type: Getting a product that caters to your skin type is equally important to achieve bump-free skin. If you have sensitive, dry, and normal skin, King suggests looking for ingredients like glycerin, jojoba oil, ceramides, petrolatum, or bees wax. "For oily and acne-prone skin, look for a gentle formulation that contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid," she says. "Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid that is oil-soluble and can penetrate into pores to gently exfoliate and remove excess oils."
How Long Does It Take to See Improvement When Using an Acne Bodywash?
Stubborn body acne may seem like something that can resolve quickly with the right products, but Jaliman stresses that results aren't instant even with consistent use. "Most people see improvement at about six weeks," she says. "It can take as long as 12 weeks, but if there is no improvement by then, it may be time to see a dermatologist." King adds that formulas that provide a gentle exfoliation can speed things up with an average time of about two to four weeks.
