If my own excitement for summer in Europe is anything to go by, the European tourist board must be rubbing its hands together in delight. Whilst Americans are headed over to the Med for their summer trips and screaming "Euro summer!" from their yachts, we in the UK are packing away our rain macs and piling 10 bikinis into our suitcases, ready to head to Portofino or somewhere equally as heavenly.
I’m sure that many of you have a holiday group chat with your friends to plan your trip, or you've at least Googled places to visit in Europe for the most sunshine at the best price. Either way, I get it: European holidays are the very best, in my opinion. They’re within a few hours' flying time from the UK, they almost guarantee sunshine and the list of places to visit only seems to grow every year. For me, it's usually Greece or Italy, but anywhere with sunshine, a view and some quiet is high on my list.
Also on my list is what to pack for said "Euro summer". Bikinis, co-ords, sandals and sunglasses are ready to go, but what about beauty products? Here are the six items I’m not leaving the country without this year.
Victoria Magrath's 6 Summer Beauty Essentials
1. Clé de Peau Beauté Exclusive UV Protective Cream SPF 50
First place goes to the most important product on the list: SPF. This one is a personal favourite, and I've gone through perhaps six bottles over the past few years. It has a luxury price tag, but it makes your skin look and feel just as expensive. It has this silky, soft texture that coats the skin in a veil of glowy luminosity, and I’m hooked on wearing it. I’ve actually taken to wearing this alone most days, with just a touch of bronzer, blusher and a lip product. I can’t recommend it enough.
2. Larry King Haircare Ride or Die Texture Spray
If you’re heading to windy Mykonos, I’ve got a tip: wear a ponytail every single day. Anywhere else, this is the product you should be packing. Not only does it add beachy texture, but it also packs in volume, so your hair looks bigger and better than ever, plus, it holds your style in place. If you want a bouncy blowout with a bit more texture throughout the body, a fuller ponytail or barrel curls that look thicker, this is the product. It also smells divine.
3. byfrow Pigment Pencils and Sharpener
As byfrow’s founder, I’ve been wearing the new Pigment Pencil shades for months. They’re available next week in three new effortlessly wearable shades. Mauve Macaron, Hazelnut Praline and Double Espresso were created to offer even more versatility; each shade can be used in multiple ways, whether you’re defining the lips, adding soft contour, creating natural-looking freckles or enhancing the eyes. They’re multi-tasking, so they’re brilliant for travel. Alongside the launch, we’re introducing the new byfrow Pencil Sharpener. Made from 100% recycled plastic and designed with ultra-sharp blades, it keeps your Pigment Pencils perfectly precise every time. In my opinion, there’s no better sharpener—because we all want those lip lines looking precise, don’t we?
4. Victoria Beckham Colour Wash Bronze Water Tint
My favourite thing about summer beauty is how little makeup we can wear and still feel our most beautiful. Summer makeup is all about a less-is-more approach, glowy finishes and effortless application, and this product is exactly that. The Victoria Beckham Beauty Water Tints just launched in two new bronze shades, ideal for adding warmth to the cheeks. I prefer to apply these to the back of my hand and then work them into the cheeks with a dense brush. Apply lightly and build up for a really natural wash of colour. Effortless.
5. Jo Malone London Beach Blossom Cologne
Now that we have our effortless makeup look, our hair has extra oomph and our lips are perfectly lined, we need a fragrance that says "Euro summer", and this is spot on. Jo Malone London Beach Blossom Cologne not only screams "paradise" with its sunset orange hues, but the juice inside gives coconut on a salty sea breeze with a touch of tonka bean and lime. It’s fresh and light, but has a luxurious, coconutty sun-cream scent. I haven’t stopped wearing it since the start of spring.
6. Victoria’s Secret Bombshell Bronze Body Oil
The final touch to your holiday look is your skin. You’re wearing your cute minidresses and sparkly heels, but your legs and arms are lacklustre and dull? No, thank you. Victoria’s Secret Bombshell Bronze Body Oil is a new favourite of mine, with a rose gold undertone and a beautifully glowy finish that doesn't look or feel too oily. In truth, I’d gladly add the Bombshell Bronze body lotion alongside this, because the two layer up like a dream and only enhance the mango and peony scent. When you're nourishing your skin whilst out for dinner and cocktails, what’s not to love?
