Rich-Smelling and Chic—This Is the Safest Blind-Buy Perfume I've Ever Known
One beauty editor reviews her new go-to winter perfume: LBTY. Zephirine.
Usually, if you'd ask me to buy one of the best perfumes without even smelling it, I'd tell you you're crazy. I mean, who would do that, right? However, after overhearing multiple colleagues raving about a particular scent, I felt confident enough to press checkout without even reading up on the key notes. The thing is, it's not every day that you hear hard-to-please editors say that they've come across one of the most expensive-smelling, elegant fragrances of all time. Not to mention that they get endless compliments whenever they wear it.
I'll admit, when I first spritzed this LBTY perfume, I was nervous that it might not live up to what I had heard, but the minute it settled on my skin, I was taken on an olfactory journey like never before. The scent in question? Zephirine.
Created by the iconic British retailer, Liberty London, LBTY Zephirine is one of the stand-out scents from the brand. It is, hands down, one of the richest, chicest, most head-turning fragrances in my collection, so I thought it was time to give it the moment it truly deserves. Keep on scrolling for my full review.
LBTY Zephirine Perfume Review
Key notes: Fig, cypress, clove, rose centifolia, patchouli, benzoin, suede, vetiver, cedarwood
Best for: Autumn and winter
Smells like: A five-star stay in the British countryside
If it were an outfit: A Barbour x Ganni jacket
If it were a makeup product: A cream blusher that makes it look as if you've just come inside from a brisk country walk
If it were a bag: A Mulberry Bayswater
The Scent
Imagine waking up in the most lavish countryside estate you've ever seen, opening up the curtains on a sunny winter's day, and seeing the grass below covered in a thin layer of frost. You go downstairs to a beautifully prepared breakfast (from your private chef, of course) on a long wooden dining table adorned with fresh figs, before slipping on a Barbour jacket for a morning walk in the country air. That's what this perfume smells like to me.
Notes of fig create this beautifully warm, woody aroma, while hints of cypress add a fresh, crisp, forest-like scent. It's invigorating in every sense of the word, with a base of suede and cedarwood adding an expensive-smelling undertone throughout.
The Bottle
As for the bottle, it's a work of art. The sleek, glass perfume is finished off with a statement cap featuring Liberty's archival Eden’s Awakening print. This perfume is actually an olfactory take on the print itself, and my dressing table looks a whole lot chicer having this sat on top of it.
It's certainly more of an investment fragrance, but there's no denying just how luxurious this scent smells. Plus, thanks to the heady aroma, a little goes a long way.
