The OG Sneakers That Fashion Girls Are Discovering for the First Time

There's no denying that sneakers are the shoe style of the past few years. High heels, it would seem, are starting to dwindle in popularity, but trainers continues to go from strength to strength. And it's easy to see why: They're easy to wear and look great with every outfit in your wardrobe. While initially it was just sportswear brands the fashion pack looked to for their fix, now it's all about more high-end trainers.
But did you know that the original designer sneakers came from footwear brand Bally? And did you also know the label has just reissued some of its classic pairs produced in the '60s, '70s and '80s? These retro sneakers are just what you need to take your wardrobe up a notch. But if you're not sure how to wear yours, we've enlisted the help of influencer Soraya Bakhtiar, who confesses she "loves anything retro," to show us just how to pair the '60s-style shoes. Keep scrolling to see the two looks that will take you through the next spring.

Style Notes: The trick about making a classic jeans-and–T-shirt ensemble chic is adding a great pair of sneakers. Soraya selected the classic tennis shoes from Bally, as she "loves the retro vibe of these sneakers and the dusty rose details." But to really make this outfit stand out, she has another styling trick: "I love to mix things up and add a little element of surprise. Pairing my sneakers with sheer socks is fun, and I've been doing that a lot lately."

Style Notes: While Soraya recommends wearing sneakers with anything (and we have to agree), her favourite outfit is pairing them with a pretty dress. "I styled one of the looks with a baby-pink gingham dress, as I thought they would complement each other perfectly." She also paired her outfit with one of the other biggest trends of the moment—the bum bag—which finishes off her look.
