Now that we're in the throes of fall, I'm looking to give my outfits a fresh injection of energy. Of course, there's no lack of fashion inspiration to invigorate my outfits this season. Gathering nifty styling ideas from the runwayschic outfits on Instagram, and, yes, even Zara's website, for the past few weeks, I've saved some of the coolest fall styling ideas that I plan on copying to give my outfits a trend-forward touch throughout fall and into winter. Below, I'm sharing easy and affordable tweaks that you, too, can easily make within your day-to-day looks that will unquestionably add an of-the-moment touch to your fall wardrobe.

Add a Pop of Red

One of the easiest ways to look on-trend this fall/winter is by adding a pop of fiery red to your outfit. Unquestionably, it's the biggest color trend of the season. Whether you opt to throw a red sweater over your shoulders, amp up your basics with red socks or tights, or style a pair of red shoes with your gray trousers, there are plenty of chic, easy, and affordable ways to integrate the color trend into your outfit this season.

Show Your Socks

Socks have become a fashion statement this season, and the fashion set is styling them with everything from polished pointed-toe slingbacks to classic loafers and pretty ballet flats. Go for a pair of slouchy wool socks in of-the-moment red or gray—a surefire way to make your ensemble look very 2023.

Cinch Your Waist With a Belt

The messaging stood clear on the fall/winter 2023 runways: This is the year to embrace the waist. One affordable way to get the look is with the addition of a chic belt—whether you go for a classic black belt cinched over an overcoat or a statement wide belt over a knit maxi dress, as spotted at Max Mara. There's no denying the silhouette is romantic, powerful, and altogether on-trend.

Thanks to Miu Miu, it's officially cool to wear sheer tights in a nonchalant way—e.g., pulled up over your knit top and worn under a low-rise skirt or jeans. Okay, it may not be for everyone, but fashion insiders will immediately clock the statement look.

Throw on a Scarf

Stay warm in style this season. On the fall/winter 2023 runways, blankets, scarves, and shrugs were thrown over everything from snappy tailoring at The Row and Saint Laurent to evening gowns at Giorgio Armani. Whether you match your scarf to your coat or go for a homespun knitted scarf with a statement broach or pin, scarves are a chic and easy way to make a fashion statement this season.

Show Off Your Undies (in a Subtle Way)

Okay, this may not be everyone's cup of tea, but one micro-trend I've been seeing for the past few seasons (thanks again to Miu Miu!) is undies styled just above your pants or skirts—allowing them to peek through subtly. Opt for a pair with a special feature, such as a silky or sequin fabric, that will add a pop to your basics.

Shop:

Go Gray

The fashion world is well and truly embracing gray this season—and for good reason. It's versatile, luxe looking, and timeless. The key is to go for a head-to-toe tonal look. Mix textures to keep the outfit interesting.
