You can thank Gucci or your grandma’s accessory game, but it’s safe to say that the brooch—especially those of the floral variety—is here to stay. While we adore this trend because of its opulence and statement-making qualities, it’s particularly special because it’s actually the simplest way to completely make over any of the standard pieces in your closet—mainly your classic work blazer. Pin a vibrant floral brooch on your lapel to instantly elevate your vibe and make that blazer (one you may have had for years!) feel new and fresh.
And the best part? While you could totally purchase some of the gorgeous brooches out there, you can actually easily make your own—all for under $5.
Keep scrolling to check out our DIY tutorial on how to make your very own flower pin—and get ready to switch up your 9-to-5 look just like that. Plus, shop already-made floral pins if you're not quite ready to DIY yet.
What you'll need:
1. Your favorite silk flower (we love the selection at Michaels)
3. A hot-glue gun
4. Pin backing (we found ours on Amazon)
Cut the stem of your silk flower off so you're left with just the top part. We reccomend keeping the green leaves on to add color and visual interest.
Grab one of your pin backings, and add a layer of hot glue to the back.
Place the pin backing on the back of the flower, and hold firmly for one minute to ensure it's secured.
Add your new flower pin to your favorite work blazer to make it feel fresh and of-the-moment. We love the idea of pairing your "new" blazer with a silk top, cropped flares, and pointed pumps if you work in a casual office.
