This Brooklynite Has the Makings of Fashion's Latest Muse
What do you get when you mix a folk-singing Brooklynite exuding cooler-than-cool insouciance with a luxury label reviving itself with an amplified new aesthetic? Some beautiful synergy (and subsequential murmurs about the makings of a new muse).
Under-the-radar folk singer Kelsey Lu just made a splash at her first Gucci show, and she was a walking example of the brand’s new dress code. The crooner wore a ’70s-inspired firetruck-red suit from the house’s Pre-Fall 16 collection to the S/S 17 show in Milan, along with a fanciful pussy-bow blouse.
Since creative director Alessandro Michele took the helm of the Florentine fashion house in January 2015, he’s remapped Gucci’s DNA, giving life to fantastical patchwork collections that everybody wants a piece of. Turning up the dial on volume, adornment, and color, his new set of Gucci girls very much represent the same look.
Lu also made an appearance at Molly Goddard’s show in London last weekend. Lu told Vogue.com she’s already made a mental lineup of all the pieces she’s pining over from Gucci’s and Goddard’s collections. “There are too many things to list. Overall, it was jaw-dropping.”
