Trust Me—These 5 Winter Hair Trends Are About to Be Everywhere

Winter is almost here, and every year I decide that I want to drastically change my hair for the new season. I've done it all, from cutting it all off into a short bob to dying my brunette locks bleach blonde, but this year I'm at a loss with what to do for the colder months. As a beauty editor, I'm lucky enough to know lots of people that work in the hair industry, so I thought it made sense to reach out to the experts to find out what hair trends will be everywhere this winter, and get some much-needed inspiration for my next visit to the salon.

I reached out to Samantha Cusick, founder of Samantha Cusick London and Stā Studios, and Jordanna Cobella, colour and trends ambassador for Wella Hair and creative director of Cobella Salon, and after talking to them, I'm struggling to decide which trend is my favourite. From rich, glossy shades to short, boxy cuts, there's something for all of us, so keep on scrolling for your ultimate guide to the biggest winter hair trends of 2023. I'm warning you, you're probably going to want to book an appointment straight after reading this. In fact, I've got mine next week…

1. The Boxy Bob

"This hairstyle is highly requested in the salon right now, and we’re even seeing celebrities braving the chop—Hailey Bieber being amongst my favourites to wear the perfect chin-skimming bob," says Cusick. "These boxy bobs will be worn with that 'undone' look this winter, for the epitome of cool-girl chic."

I'm personally a big fan of this hairstyle, and I love the fact that people are favouring a more undone look, as it makes styling your hair a whole lot easier.

"Our infatuation with cowgirl copper is crossing over into the winter months," explains Cusick. "Cinnamon bronde is a fusion of warm, reddish-brown and strawberry-blonde shades. This blend creates a rich, multidimensional hair colour reminiscent of autumn hues. Think sophisticated yet vibrant."

I have no doubt that this will be the colour of the winter, and I'm quite tempted to give it a go myself…

3. Wispy Bangs

"Wispy bangs are back, but in an elevated way compared to those '90s wisps," says Cusick. "Think soft, forehead-framing pieces that border on curtain bangs."

If you have a full fringe, don't fear, as you can still give this wispy style a go. Keep the side of your fringe a little longer to give that curtain-bang effect.

4. Midi-Brown Gloss

"This winter is all about embracing natural mid-browns and earthy, nature-inspired brunette shades," explains Cusick. "This colour offers an easy choice, steering clear of high-maintenance highlights and deep hues. I like to fine-tune each client's colour formula to match their natural hair level."

In my opinion, this hair colour looks so chic and expensive.

"'Imperfect, undone '80s bed-head waves look natural, accidental and have that messy vibe to them," says Cobella. "In light of upcoming movie Priscilla, the backcombed, large and sexy silhouette of big hair is back."

If only our hair really did look like this when we rolled out of bed…
