The 3 Big Eyewear Trends I'm Personally Endorsing This Season

I'll never forget the look on my fiancé's face as he watched me carry an oversized tray piled with many, many sunglasses into our new apartment when we moved earlier this year. (We have, um, very little storage space. But hey, I won't apologize for my love of sunnies!) I've tried all of the trendy pairs throughout the years, some of which I still own and wear on the regular while others have made their way into various donation bins around Los Angeles. So given my genuine love for sunglasses and all my fashion-editor knowledge, you could say I'm pretty well qualified to hand out advice on the matter at hand.
Contrary to popular belief, sunglasses are not just a summer staple. They're a year-round must-have. Sure, I live in Los Angeles where the weather is a solid 70° and sunny most days, but any of my New York–editor counterparts would tell you the same thing. This season, there are three trendy styles that I'll definitely be adding to my ever-growing eyewear collection: cat eyes, square frames, and iconic patterns. So despite my fiance’s eye rolls, when I saw that Burberry had dropped those exact styles at Sunglass Hut (my favorite place to shop for sunnies) to celebrate its 50th anniversary, I had to check them out. Keep scrolling to see why I'm loving these trends and which pairs I'll be scooping up.
Cat-eye sunglasses rose to popularity in the 1950s, and 70 years later, the trend is still going strong. They'll forever give me that French-girl vibe, and quite honestly, when I wear them, I feel like I should be eating a croissant at a Parisian café. (Anyone else?) In my opinion, they're the easiest accessory to add to an outfit to make it look incredibly chic. This particular pair from Burberry is a bit more oversized and squared-off, which makes them feel more modern.
If you haven't seen everyone and their brother in square-framed sunglasses this year, then I don't know where you've been. This oh-so-'90s trend is sleek, elevated, easy to wear, and just flat-out cool. Again, I like how this Burberry option is more oversized, (I've struggled to find a pair of on-trend teeny sunglasses that fits the shape of my face well.) I can already see these styled with a low bun and a leather blazer.
On the F/W 21 runway, I saw everything from puffer coats to bucket hats covered in designer patterns. Yep, this trend is going to be huge this season. So you could say I was excited when I went through the Burberry collection and found a pair of sunglasses in the designer's iconic pattern. And the coolest part? Each pair is made out of bio-based acetate, a more eco-friendly material that's used in place of plastic.
