Beyoncé's Colorist Says These Hair Trends Will Define the Rest of 2023

This is about the time of year when I start itching for a different hair color. When the seasons start to change, I always feel it's only fitting if my hair changes with them. My hair has been the same color for a few years, and I think it might be time to try a new trend. If you're feeling the same way, I've got you covered. I decided to tap a celebrity colorist to learn the hottest hair trends to try right now.

No one knows "It" color trends like Rita Hazan, the celebrity colorist behind Beyoncé's iconic highlights. I asked Hazan to walk me through the best color trends for every shade, from blonde hair to black hair. Spoiler alert: Unlike previous years, this year is all about warm hair colors and low-maintenance colors. Keep reading for the seven hair color trends about to grace the heads of A-listers.

Caramel Toffee Sauce

If you're looking to highlight brunette hair this year, take inspiration from desserts. Hazan says one of the biggest hair trends for brunettes is to weave in toffee, honey, or caramel highlights. This creates dimension that looks natural and adds warmth to the face.

High Contrast

Those with dark hair will want to play with high-impact contrast. "Adding color-blocking of blonde or any fantasy color of your choice, either around your hairline like a chunky money piece or hidden underneath" will be a major trend going forward, according to Hazan.

Milk Chocolate

We've already seen at least one trend take flight this year as many high-profile blondes (Hailey Bieber among them) ditch their flaxen shades for deeper hues. When it comes to hair color, milk chocolate is taking center stage. The shade is a way to transition to brunette while keeping a bit of the warmth and lightness of blonde hues.

Rich Chestnut

Deep chestnut hair is all the rage for anyone looking to have dark hair with a bit of an edge. This warm-toned shade is dark brown, but it has hints of cherry that give it plenty of depth.

Buttercup Blonde

"Ash is out. Butter is in," says Hazan. She says the latest color trends are all about buttery sun-kissed colors in bright, light-reflecting tones. Think if Sun-In did what you always wanted it to do.

Copper Ribbons

One hair color we've consistently seen be trendy for the past few seasons? Copper. There's no slowing down this penny-hued shade. Copper highlights continue to be one of the hottest trends for redheads.
