Inevitably, every spring, the trench coat comes back without fail. I see it as the foundational coat of the season, an enduring layer that never goes out of style.

Shopping for a trench coat is, of course, subjective, and there are so many kinds to choose from, no matter what your taste is. I personally prefer a single-breasted version in black, so that's what I'm currently looking out for. Other options include double-breasted styles, belted or unbelted designs, funnel-neck shapes, patterned fabrics, and a range of lengths and colors. The list goes on.

Some of my favorites are Rue Sophie’s Lea Belted Trench Coat, Barbour’s Maia Waterproof Trench Coat, and Skims’ Oversized Trench Coat. For maximalists, there’s Damson Madder’s Anja Reversible Shower-Proof Trench, English Factory’s Animal Print Trench Coat, Helsa’s Upper Westside Trench, and Lisa Says Gah’s Olson Trench Coat.
