I Studied Paris Street Style—These French Handbag Brands Are Everywhere
From heritage icons to under-the-radar labels, these are the Parisian approved names to know.
If there’s one thing I always pay attention to when I’m in Paris, it’s the handbags. French people live in basics and vintage, it’s hard to find something you can actually shop and bring home sometimes but the bags…they’re covetable. If you like people watching, you’re like me. When traveling, I’m always peeking around to see what the locals are actually wearing. The last time I went, I found myself noticing the same brands over and over again—on the metro, when I went shopping through boutiques and even just walking outside the apartment I stayed at.
What stood out wasn’t just the mix of power houses and exciting new brands, but how effortlessly they were styled. If you don’t pick up a new bag after reading this article, just at least look at the outfits each woman wore. Nothing feels overly precious or try-hard. All of the looks feel very lived-in, very intentional, and very French. Below, the handbag brands I genuinely couldn’t stop seeing.
Chanel
Surprised to see Chanel here? Probably not. To know French fashion requires knowing a thing or two about this iconic brand. Parisians in particular love the classic styles from the brand while simultaneously forming lines outside of a new Mathieu Blazy drop.
Poléne
Poléne has been generating quite the buzz on the internet lately for the classic styles they champion that fit right in there with the usual iconic French style. It’s the perfect intersection of thoughtful design and (relatively) accessible pricing that makes it a no-brainer.
Longchamp
The return of Longchamp is very real, and honestly, it never really left Paris. The Le Pliage tote, in particular, has been passed down through generations at this point in both French and American families. Their bags overall are practical, unfussy, and somehow always chic.
Rouje
Rouje bags bring that distinctly French, slightly vintage energy that feels straight out of a Left Bank daydream. When you walke the streets of Le Marais and discover the store, you always feel like you’ve just found a hidden gem. Think structured shapes, rich tones, and just a hint of retro charm.
Elleme
Elleme is one of those brands fashion people quietly love, and it shows. The soft suede textures and curved silhouettes feel directional without being loud, which makes them incredibly wearable. It’s the kind of bag that subtly elevates an outfit without ever overpowering it.
Celine
Celine continues to define that polished, minimalist Parisian aesthetic so many people try to replicate. The Triomphe styles and structured top-handle bags were everywhere in street style this year, on fashion people and celebs alike.
Saint Laurent
Saint Laurent bags felt like the go-to for evening-adjacent day looks—sleek, slightly undone, and undeniably cool. The Le 5 à 7 and Loulou styles in particular stood out making them the perfect finishing touch to any look.
Jacquemus
Jacquemus adds a playful contrast to the otherwise classic handbag lineup in Paris. It’s a nice reminder that Parisian style isn’t just about minimalism—it’s also about knowing when to have fun.
