As a fashion editor, I spend most of my days looking at hundreds if not thousands of clothing items, accessories, and shoes physically or online. While I find joy in keeping up with the runway shows and collection drops, I have a set of tried-and-true pieces that I'm wearing on repeat. Whether you call them closet staples, basics, or foundational pieces, there's no denying that I wear at least one of these styles every single day.

Since I believe in the power of dressing well and spreading love, I've decided to share my top five go-to core winter closet pieces. I've detailed what those most-worn winter styles are below, and I've even included a solid list of gorgeous shopping recs so you can wear them too. Keep scrolling to learn exactly what styles I cannot live without, from a great pair of jeans to a versatile sweater. Who knows? Maybe you'll find a new favorite too.

You can't go wrong with a solid pair of jeans. Whether straight-leg, bootcut, light, or dark, the all-American fashion staple is a tried-and-true favorite. In winter, I love wearing styles that can accommodate versatile shoe styles, from boots to loafers.

Boots

Boots are synonymous with the drop in temperatures, so it's no surprise cool styles are popping up everywhere. The type of boots you decide on truly depends on your own style needs. Right now, tall knee-high leather and suede boots have been trending, but you can't go wrong with a Chelsea boot.

Versatile Sweater

As I've gotten older, I've appreciated more and more those tried-and-true pieces that you can wear in an infinite number of ways. That's exactly how I feel about a great versatile sweater. Wear it alone. Wear it over a button-down. Tie it over your shoulders. No matter how you choose to wear it, there's no doubt it'll be worn so many times. I'm partial to a beautiful cashmere sweater, but that is not a requirement.

Button-Down Shirt

I'm a firm believer in the power of a button-down top. This style of shirt can shape-shift endlessly depending on your styling preferences. Tuck or untuck? Roll up or roll down the sleeves? Tie or untie? The choice is yours. In cooler temperatures, consider opting for one made with a thicker fabric, or you can layer your favorite winter basics to give any button-down the chic fashion-person effect.

A chic everyday coat has a way of giving even a casual look an elevated feel. My go-to everyday winter coat is a longline wool-blend style. You can't go wrong with this ultimate versatile style. It also tends to have such a classic look that you'll be rocking this beauty for many winters to come.
