These Jeans Are OUT, According to Experts
You have a lot of choices when it comes to your denim selection. If you’re looking for the perfect casual Friday look, you can go for dark skinnies, cropped flares, denim culottes, and so on. Ideal weekend look? Perhaps that’s when you opt for boyfriend jeans or a distressed straight-leg find. Well, while you should wear whatever you love and feel most comfortable in, there are certain styles that are more forward than others for these different occasions.
To help fill us in on the jean styles that are in and out for fall, we tapped some of our favorite denim brand experts to spill. You may be surprised by some of their picks—and totally may agree with others.
Keep scrolling to check out the denim picks you should test and avoid right now. Plus, shop some of the best jeans of the moment, too. It’s time to find your perfect pair.
In: "Authentic, vintage-looking blue jeans with minimal stretch and a high-rise. Our new A/W 16 Mimi jean is a high rise non-stretch jean with a slim tapered leg, and it’s already sold out. Cropped flares are continuing to have a real moment; our raw-hem Lou Jeans have been a best seller for the last two seasons. A blue-jean vintage vibe is key.”
Out: "Super-stretch denim. Look for jeans with low elastane (up to 2%) for comfort. They will look and feel like a cool pair of jeans should.”
In: "For fall 2016, we’re seeing a movement toward vintage fits and silhouettes. Favorites this season feature a higher rise including slim straight jeans like The Phoebe and The Sloan and cropped kick flare styles such as The Jodi Crop.”
Out: "While skinny jeans will always be a wardrobe staple, this season is about going back to the basics with more classic and relaxed fits.”
These are ideal to pair with sneakers and a pullover to kick around on the weekend.
In: "For fall, high-rise denim continues to be important, and vintage silhouettes remain the key players in fashion denim. One of our favorites is our high-rise classic vintage fit, The Liya, which continues as a season must-have with a number of new fall washes. We have added interesting details to some of our vintage fits, including high-low hemline at the leg opening of the Liya Classic High Rise Jean as well as an undone hem detail to our looser-fitting Cora Crop Jean.”
Out: "Super-low-rise skintight jeggings. They tend to look foreign as painted on disco pants from the ’70s.”
Can you imagine these with a cool off-the-shoulder top before it gets too cold outside? So cute.
In: "At Re/Done, we are selling crop flares really well. Also, our ’90s-inspired no-waist jeans are selling really well. The overall trend is still individuality.”
Out: "I feel any stretchy legging type jeans are OUT!”
