I Hit Refresh on My Closet This Year—5 Cute Outfits I Swear By
Welcome to Before I Head Out, a monthly series in which fashion editor Anneliese Dominguez rounds up the snaps she's taken of her favorite outfits before heading out the door of her Los Angeles apartment.
Despite having a closet full of clothes, I was getting tired of my outfit options at the end of 2023. If I had to pull out my old, pilly black sweater one more time, I swear—well, you get it. I was done. So before I rang in 2024, I made it my mission to spruce up my closet in preparation for the next year. I didn't have the budget to buy a whole new wardrobe (which I wouldn't want to do, anyway), so I scoured the internet for new pieces that felt fresh and that I'd want to wear over and over again—no more one-and-done tops! I ordered pieces from my favorite budget-friendly sites including Mango and H&M, but I also splurged on a few high-quality items. The result? A 10/10 lineup of easy outfits created with pieces old and new. If you need a little wardrobe refresh this year, I got you. Keep scrolling for five cute outfit ideas for 2024.
No, I don't need to wear eyeglasses, but I couldn't help but get on board with TikTok's fashion girlies and buy a fake pair. Will I regret it in a few years when I look back at some of my pictures? Maybe. But for now, it's fun. As you know, I love neutrals, but I swapped out my usual black-and-white aesthetic for a tight, dark-brown, long-sleeve shirt and a beige corduroy skirt. I played into the preppy trend that my glasses were giving with a pair of Dior loafers and socks. This one earned a lot of compliments.
Okay, I wasn't going on a date in this top, but the moment I walked into the office, my co-workers stopped me to say they needed it for date night. I totally agree. The boat neck gives it a bit of that off-the-shoulder vibe and feels subtly sultry. I could see it paired with kitten heels, but for this office look, I opted for burgundy flats. (It is the color of the season.)
This look made me feel like I was in my Hailey Bieber era. I originally got this coat for a trip to New York City, but L.A. has been extra chilly lately! The coat's length makes my outfit instantly cooler, and the Djerf Avenue scarf is the perfect accessory to pair with it.
Me? Wear color? It can happen! In fact, I'm doing it more often. I love the ruching on this top because it makes me feel way more dressed up than I am. The fact that I paired it with jeans and it still looks elevated is proof.
My baggy low-rise trousers are fitting a bit more high-rise these days thanks to the holidays, but I'm always a fan of this slouchy look. Nothing is cozier or more classic than an oversize knit sweater, and the whole look feels extra chic with a simple Bottega bag and ballerina flats.
