The Spring Trend That's Wearable, Flattering, and Easy to Buy at Any Budget
Take it from me: The granny jacket is spring’s best investment piece—and that’s whether you want to spend $50 or $500. What exactly is a granny jacket, you ask? Think a boxy iteration of outerwear that buttons up, is often (but not always) collarless, typically in a tweed or boucle style fabric, and basically looks like something Emily Gilmore would wear. If you don’t know who that is, stop reading this immediately and start streaming Gilmore Girls on Netflix right now.
Anyway, back to the jackets. Whether it’s on the streets, in stores, online, or on my Instagram feed, the style has been everywhere I look, and thanks to its sleekness and versatility, I’ve concluded that it’s a must for the season ahead. Since I had to do the research for myself anyway, below I'm sharing my favorite granny jackets at every price point along with a healthy dose of outfit inspiration to guide you in the right styling direction. Happy shopping, friends.
Wear this with everything from jeans to the matching skirt.
Nili Lotan makes several versions of this jacket and they're all stunning.
I love how all the buttons on this are slightly different.
This one by Remain Birger Christensen is among my favorites.
J.Crew is another brand that's killing it in this category at the moment.
If you prefer a non-cropped version, this is for you.
If the pink one wasn't for you, consider the Endless Rose jacket in black.

Since starting as an intern back in 2013, Nicole Akhtarzad Eshaghpour has held several roles here at Who What Wear, and she is currently Editor-at-Large. It was a less expected route, seeing as she was graduating from business school at USC when this all began, but it has turned out to be the best one for her. Fast-forward to 2020, and she's moved to NYC from her hometown of Beverly Hills and spends her workdays a little differently from when she was an intern starting out. Currently, she focuses on a weekly mélange of shopping content. As far as her personal style goes, she's largely drawn to classic pieces and neutral basics but will always make an exception for something colorful, printed, or bejeweled as long as it's deemed worthy enough. After all, the only thing she loves more than a good party is dressing up for one. On weekdays, she can usually be found at home eating something delicious for dinner and trying to force her husband to watch 90 Day Fiancé.
